This is where I rage post that rockets are unguided while missiles are guided, and nobody has used anti-air rockets since WWII.
Isn't missile technically a synonym for projectile? Cause I've seen tons of games refer to archers as missile troops.

Yes it is. Stones thrown by ancient slings are also referred to as missiles and arrows are technically missiles as well.

The missiles that Nikov is referring to are also technically rockets due to their mode of propulsion.

Yeah, plus rioters can throw "Missiles" at police officers.

Hmm... if rockets are unguided, how did NASA get them to the moon?

that's why rocket science is difficult

Rockets are sometimes missiles, and missiles sometimes use rockets and even more occasionally are rockets.
And self-propelled missile likely uses rockets. It is possible to have guided missiles that are not rockets, though!

Rocket is the propulsive device, missile is the thing used as a ranged weapon.

Actually military parlance is pretty specific (like how its specific about the difference between a gun and a howitzer) although the technical terms are used as you say, but whatever. Fun to see the thread re-rail and then de-rail without my input.

For those who are interested, a gun is a low trajectory direct-fire artillery piece, and a howitzer is a medium-trajectory indirect one.

So, Rocket-Propelled Grenades (RPG) would qualify as a missile then? What about RPCs, RPSs, and RPMs (Chainsaw/Sledgehammer(or sword)/Mole)?

In the non-technical use, an RPG is a missile.

Yeah, under the civilian definition a bullet, once fired, is a missile. That's how silly that definition gets sometimes.

Technicly speaking that definition came first, the newer military ones came after, ya can't realy call a definition 'silly' becouse of it's more modern definition.

Holy shit guys, fine.

I rescind my previous statement about anti-air rockets.

The tank in the back was armed with self-propelled guided missiles, used to attack enemy aircraft.

There, better?

They're called SAMs.

Maybe the tank fires AAMs while airborne, perhaps after being launched by a sort of tank railgun.  Didn't think about that, did you?  :P

I wanted to be as specific as possible, to avoid confusion.  Maybe someone would think the gun launches Uncle Sam at the bad guy.
