How to train swimming fast
« on: November 28, 2010, 09:30:29 am »

I need to tarin swimming. A lot. Any ideas on how to train it faster?

I heard stripping down will help, but I don't know.

go into an ocean that's not freezing, swim back and forth. That's it. There isn't a trick. You can train sneak at the same time for more efficiency. Make sure the ocean won't freeze over on you.

Will a river work?

Yes, you don't even have to move in the water, it's enough just to stand still/pass turns, you can train throwing that way(throw at the tile you are on) or train knapping(for the attributes it gives), you can even use murky pools.

What attribute does knapping give?

Even better, make a macro to mindlessly grab and throw rocks at your feet while sneaking in a river.

I think knapping is spatial and kinesthetic sense.

For pure speed of training, I would suggest trying to swim upstream at a waterfall.
The current should push you around to two or three tiles for every move you make; see if that gives you 2-3x the training speed.

Swimming in 1-z level deep water is one of the slowest ways to train swimming. You seem to get more experience when there is a current pushing against you and when you have one or more z-levels of water above you.

The fastest way to train swimming is to find a spot with 2-3 z-levels of water and then doing laps of diving, swimming on the bottom and surfacing. Just be sure not to spend too much time on the bottom or you'll drown.

Find a very wide ocean. Enter ocean. Place heavy object on the appropriate directional key. Go watch TV for a few hours/days.

Sneaking only gives points for MOVING, it gives 1 point for every tile you move while sneaking.
