The Seven Deadly Holidays
« on: November 28, 2010, 04:04:40 am »

So, after gorging myself on delicious food this Thanksgiving, I started reflecting on the gluttony of the holiday.  And the greed of Christmas.  I figured valentines day and lust is  a bit of a stretch, but what the heck, why not.  Are there any other holidays that have become a celebration of a deadly sin?  I kinda ran out of ideas.

Presidents' Day is pride, Independence Day is wrath, Labor Day is sloth, and Martin Luther King Day is envy.

You're welcome.

Yeah, I think to qualify as a 7ds holiday, it'd have to be international. Not one of your Yankee terrorist holidays.

Are you saying that Veteran's Day is a terrorist holiday? Because I'm fairly certain that veterans of the military were neither members of a group that uses or advocates terror, and neither did they purposely terrorize of frighten others.

Well... I'll accept the ones for Wrath, Lust, Greed and Gluttony then.

Which leaves me with Envy, Sloth and Pride.

Envy to New Years Eve.  Truly a time to feel jealous of those in a better position than you.
Sloth to New Years Day.  Getting anything done on that day would truly be a miracle.
Pride to your own birthday.  When better to celebrate yourself?

I do things on New Year's Day. Just not productive things.

Considering that many veterans have served in Vietnam and a sizable part in the 2nd world war, I would say they certainly used terror.

All soldiers use terror, weither people admit it or not, it's part of war and always has been. Any holiday celebrateing war and/or soldiers counts as wrath to me. Hell several of them could count for envy and greed as well, since that's what most wars start over, the rest tend to start over pride.

I am Signal, how in the hell do we inspire terror...   Unless you have a phobia of giant dishes and the Internet...

"Nobody wants to live in Townbrush, and for good reason. Almost everyone that has come to Townbrush has been eaten, stabbed, crushed, drowned, hacked, incinerated, or beaten to death with an octopre skin backpack. When we're not under siege, we're being attacked by Forgotten Beasts. And when we're not being attacked by Forgotten Beasts, there's probably a zombie whale crushing someone to death in the dining room."

I wonder what day represents Vanity?

So  far I have only seen Wrath, Pride, Envy, Greed, Gluttony and one half-hearted attempt at Lust..

Last I checked Vanity is just another name for Pride when it comes to the sins.
Wraith/Anger, Envy, Greed, Gluttony, Lust, Sloth, Pride/Vanity.
