(1) Ensure that you're installing DF "fresh" into a new directory, not over the old one.
(2) Check to see if the files were actually created, it's in
   data/save/region1   (could be region2, 3, etc.)
(3) Have enough hard drive space?

Started in a fresh dirrectory so thats not the problem and I have enough disk space.

It does create a region1 folder with files in it, It just seems like it wont let me acces them.

Theres also a "Current" folder in my save dirrectory thats empty.

Is there a file "world.dat" or "world.sav" in the region folder?  That's the one it looks for.  The only other reason it rejects is because of version incompatibility.  Anything else would be a bug, or some weird linuxy / \ type thing or something.

There is indeed a world.dat and I have windows XP so its not a linux problem.

Ive tried deleating and reextracting to no avail, This is driving me crazy, I want to fail at making a fortress.

Ive also tried rebooting, I'm at a loss.

Sorry for double post but I fixed the problem.

For some reason Dwarffort.exe was running in windows 95 compatability mode and I just simply turned that off and now it decects maps, Hope this helps someone.
