Effectiveness of Artifact Bone Weapons?
« on: November 27, 2010, 04:47:38 pm »

I'm now in possession of a dog bone spear and a elephant bone spear, both artifacts (plus also a deer bone buckler). I'm wondering, is there any point in using these? Currently I only have bronze weapons, so that is what I'd be replacing.

I'm guessing the answer is no, but artifacts ARE much more powerful...

I'm not in possession
Then all we can do is speculate, really. Lacking any means of qualitatively measuring weapon effectiveness, I'd say you should have the weapon available for subjective testing at least.

I suppose you could use them in your honor guard?

Give cats natural metallic armor and throw them in your danger room.  Also allow their mouth and tail to grasp (shield in mouth, weapon in tail xD)  Have a cat based military.  You know, do the same with all tame animals xD send in the cats as shock troops to disrupt the archers

There is of course the sheer coolness of killing someone with a elephant bone spear. Those spears would also make fun training weapons.

No! No! I will not massacre my children. Instead, I'll make them corpulent on crappy mass-produced quarry bush biscuits and questionably grown mushroom alcohol, and then send them into the military when they turn 12...

Follow these steps carefully.

1) Go to your craftdwarf workshop.
2) Make a full set of bone Armour
3) Equip one of your squad leaders with the elephant bone spear and armor.
4) Give him a cool name.

And your done! Nothing else you need to take into account. If your really lucky he will die on the battle field and rise as an murderous ghost.

I had a "murderous ghostly butcher" rise once. Words alone cannot express how cool I found that to be

VERY cool. Better if he had gone around putting an end to all the cats in your fortress.
