If you kill enough sapient creatures (or see a good deal more sapients killed by others) you gain an alcohol need. Generally around 10 sapients yourself, I can't nail down why there is variance with those killed by others, probably some interaction of personality traits but it seems to be anywhere from the same 10 to upwards of 20 before you gain a booze need.

I think there may also be sheer volume of violence doled out? Last 2 runs or so I had characters who had seen 3-6 animal corpses, killed one to none, but had engaged in prolonged beatings sparring sessions with various critters. One of them felt nothing upon seeing/causing his first sentient death, the other had yet to kill a sentient. All of those characters did have 1st degree cheerfulness and 1st degree humor, no sense of vengeance, but had 2nd degree lack of emotional attachment. I'd guess we'd all have to screen cap character personality facets before concluding.

II don't play adventure mode regularly but 'm curious. If you play as a creature who can suck blood out of people with a bite attack (mosquito man, leech man, etc), can you become a vampire by biting one and sucking their blood?

Yes. I did some science on it a while ago. However, only mosquito women can suck blood, and both mosquito women and leech men are very wimpy. It's hard to break the skin with them.

Is there any way to turn a companion into a vampire?

Drinking vampire blood. Giving them a mug will make any NPC drink any liquid that's in it. The catch is if they have a pouch, backpack, or quiver, they'll put any items you give them into it, where they'll never use any items that go in there.

Is it possible to have romance/fall in love? It is one of my character's goals and I am curious if it has been implemented.

In fact, they'll drink anything in it. Anything. ANYTHING. I have seen an NPC drink a stack of ten thousand coins one at a time.

No, I'm afraid you weren't even given the means to scratch the itches.

One solution to this is to take your mouse up in one hand and Toady's testicles up in the other and bash them both together under he understands the plight of the lovelorn.

Another solution is to locate the need in gm-editor and delete it.

Ah, the old days of mug vore, where you could give an NPC a mug with a cage with a person in it.

Neat. I have picked up mugs and cups already but I'm still trying to find vampire blood. I'm a vampire myself but the pools of blood I drank from have since dried up.

Is there a way to extract blood from a corpse/body part?

The only way is to retire him in a Fortress and wait until he finds love. Or dfhack him one.

With gm-editor you can dfhack the needs/goals, or dfhack yourself into having preferences, or do that and then add a relationship with someone else, and various other options, but outside of that, not much luck.

From experience: licking the corpse does not work... *shudder*

If the body died intact then butchering the corpse will create a pool of blood, otherwise it bleeds completely out at death. If you find less than a pool then you can drop water on it and get water laced with blood, and syndromes can be transmitted that way.

The easiest way to be sure to find vampires is to look in sewers; a lot of uncivilized races who profaned the temple take refuge there. Finding someone wearing jewelry made of sentient bone used to be the sure way to identify them, but bone trophies are common for anyone who made a kill in war.
