I made a superior crafted dragon bone crown... worth 650. You cant get as far in price insanity as you can in fortress mode, because no gem encrusting, and no artefact making...But if the idea is making money by trading, crafting is a reliable way to improve the value of materials, to then get the buy&sell ball rolling. Maybe making a woodcrafter then setting yourself the goal to spread your creations toi the whole world would be an interesting goal?

Okay, this is annoying me. I've removed LARGE_PREDATOR and any other tokens I can think of that would cause this. Is FEATURE_ATTACK_GROUP or some other cave-animal-person-specific flag doing this?

For context, I added harmlet-dwelling civs that use the same species list as the subterranean animalpeople.

Well, no thanks to anyone here, I figured out it's a side effect of having the subterranean biome property, whereas dwarves, humans, and such have no assigned biome.

Bad news is removing this breaks Adventurecraft's fix for playable Monster Islands, so eh. Fuck it.

If a world doesn't have a Necromancer tower, how would a adventurer become one, or find the book/slab of the secrets of life and death?

You're pretty much boned in that department, as the secret is rather prone to getting lost if the orginal necromancer can't gather enough forces to build a tower.

That would be an interesting way to travel the world. NPCs don't trade amongst each other yet do they?

I naturally believed that leather offered superior protection for clothing pieces.  Only today did I really even consider looking at material properties on fabric clothing.  The impact strength seems to be equal, but the shear strength is tremendously higher on fabric.

Am I not understanding something correctly here?  Are fabric clothing items really better than leather?

Clothes have a token that reduces shear values if the object is made from cloth. If the clothes didn't have that, they'd be superior to leather. Very wonky-ass way to do it, but eh.

Wow, thank you for the really fast reply.  I read up about the token and am pretty sure I understand it now.  I appreciate it.

My experience with this i mostly in the form of nerfing shear values of cloth in Adventurecraft, removing the token from caps (to work like arming caps), and adding gambesons.

In real life, it means the resistance of a material against sliding applied force, and is naturally much higher in materials that can deform. Realistically speaking, whether you take a spear or hammer strike, shear strength should not be a factor, altho it may affect slashes. Compressive strength or impact strenght are relevant, altho I don't know if (or how) they are applied in game, since armors cannot fail.

That's what the wiki says :

http://dwarffortresswiki.org/index.php/DF2014:Strain_at_yield

High shear strenght simply means the material is more flexible, and less likely to fail under shear strain. It's better for an armor to actually absorb the force of the blow rather than pass it onto your body

How does driving a group out of a hamlet work? I got to the keep and the lord there said there was no less than 11 groups fighting for control in the area - but I don't see any dialogue option to get directions/information about that specific group. Am I doing something wrong? I mean - other than the mindless murder I rejoiced in out of frustration - which yielded no results.

What requirements does a player-made fortress need to have to be considered big enough to spawn an adventurer there? I made a fort, got 100ish citizens, and have a stockpile of steel armor and weapons, but I can't seem to select it from the menu after I retire the fort. I can visit the fort, but I can't start anyone there.

I had this same problem too truthfully, soooo I just gave up for the time being on those quests xD

I am not exactly sure on this, not sure if this works or not either, but I can try to find out till someone mentions something, also does your fortress have a baron/baroness?

I have a player made fort with 28 dorfs and I can start adventurers there. It has a Duke and a tavern if that makes a difference. It also gets attacked in legends mode.

I did unrigorous tests in arena mode, with unskilled dwarfs fighting with copper knives. leather clothes protect better than cloth. Silk also seems to protect about the same as leather. I run minimalist forts so I took it as an opportunity to eliminate the whole clothing industry after making a bunch of silk socks.

For taking over a hamlet I accidently almost did this in a hillocks. The whole place was full of corpses and mostly hostile armed and armored goblins. Naturally I killed everyone but a random goblin baby and the actual mayor who was a dwarf hostile but fled. I later checked legends mode and it called my purge a failed insurrection 'after the insurrecting population fled'. Either because I failed to kill the mayor or that baby. I was under the impression the place was under occupation or seized by the goblin civ but it was a dwarf civ that was randomly hostile.

Are you sure you're picking the right dwarven civ? There may be multiple in your world.
