Just like it says at the bottom.

On each line the blue one is the current setting for that personality facet. The '4' key moves to left the '6' key to the right. For the selected line the '4' makes the character more "Leisurely" and '6' is more "Frenetic".

I think that line with that setting (---) gives a slight need to Stay Occupied.

I think you just stand on them and press Shift+.

I found a lair that is a trapdoor in the ground. for some reason I cannot descend. What do! I have a quest that needs completing!

Ctrl+move towards the trapdoor from the correct direction. Press 'l' (lowercase L) and look under the trapdoor. Come from the side opposite the tunnel.

Press ? and choose Key Bindings to see more ways of moving.

According to legends it's dead. How do I tell my hearthlady that?

Wait no it's alive, but isn't in its lair.

How did it die? Your character has to find out it's dead - or needs to find another quest giver. Or ask about troubles and make their own "quest".

Is it night time? They hunt at night and usually go back to the lair during the day.

I guess the ones around there aren't usual then, because the other one I killed was out in broad daylight in a nearby town.

Also if there is an army on the march is it possible to get recruited into it?

Only with a mod. The Peasant and Forester's Mod has reactions for a few item types like ammo and meat. It's still slight buggy in that you need one more than you're stacking.
