I've been eating nothing but roasts for months to see how long it would take to get fat. Anytime I have hunger, I eat a roast as soon as possible, and always keep a supply on hand. I still have 'loaded a tall body with incredible muscles' (I don't know how I got tall, though; I started out average sized, and status still says 'Average-sized for a human'.) but I think now that I'm at physical peak, the fat should start catching up. But I rarely walk below a jogging gait, so that may prevent or slow fattening.

Being muscular eats up alot of calories in itself.
I think Step didnt tell us what kind of exersizes, or the type of strawberries, cause Iv always tried to get obese.
Strawberries dipped in dwarf fat and honey syrup.
Being obese is awesome, its extra armor. Who cares about speed anyway? A fat vampire doesnt need to move

'Obtuse' may be a more accurate description.

Speaking of vampires, does anyone else have a bug in which you cant become a vampire?
If so, have any of you found a way past it?

Actually, no, didn't get any bug related to vampires.
I know that these will be stupid questions, but:
1. Are you a werebeast?
2. Are you sure that you actually drank the vampire blood (not just licking some blood off of your clothes/not being sated already)?
3. Are you sure that the dead vampire really was a vampire?
I just ask because sometimes you could miss an obvious reason behind a possible bug.
And I'm sure nearly all of the DF-players had some case of overlooking something in their games in the past - I know that I had.

Seems like I should've known this, but I forgot. I try to keep a dose of vamp blood in case of syndrome. So my question is, how long does it take to effect? Will it work within my life expectancy, or will it work even if the syndrome kills me?

I don't think it will help you (depends on the syndrome you'll get - death of asphyxiation won't concern you though) if it's something which leads to rotting away.
The reason for this:
If you get a syndrome which reduces your attributes then the doubling of these by getting a vampire only affects your current numbers not the state of your body before you were affected by whatever curse/poison you received.

Drank it from the ground AND from my clothing and basically anything that had his blood on it.

Yes THEY were vampires. All forty of them.

Eventually, I just gave up and became a necromancer because I have no clues as to whats causing it.

Since only drinking from a pool results in becoming a vampire.
If it's just a spatter or smearing it doesn't work.

Yes, and in any other container, too (buckets/mugs/etc).
My question was just related to the blood on the ground - as it is with being sated by drinking fluids spattered on the floor.

It just said "Drink blahblahblah's blood NW?"

If you haven't changed something in your raws related to vampires then this should have worked.
Sounds like a bug.
Maybe try to roll a new world and test if it happens again.
I have some vampire-chars in some of my worlds and they always became a night creature by taking one sip. So there "should" be no problem.

You can drink the blood even if it isn't a pool, but only a pool is enough to turn you.

Better than my first try btw, wherein I found a naked goblin vampire, bashed their head in, picked up the corpse and not knowing exactly what to do tried e > gobbyvamp corpse.

You lick the goblin vampire corpse.

Yeah, I really felt bad for the guy at that point, I could picture him sitting there listening to the voice in his head telling him to do it and kinda grimacing as he sticks his tongue out and brings the corpse closer and closer.

I have rerolled worlds and even reinstalled dwarf fortress a buncha times.

Also for some weird reason you can butcher some vampires. Yummy Amphibian man elite crossbowman vampire meat.

Only some?
You should be able to butcher all of them as the restriction concerning sentient beings doesn't apply for adventure mode.
If you can't butcher all of them then there really is something strange going on in your game.
