You got to damage it's lungs to sophacate something, strangleing just knocks them out, try attacking it's upper body, it might just damage it's lungs if you have enough skill.

I seem to remember strangling stuff to death, although this was back in 31.12, so if this is something from the recent combat updates...

You can strangle something to death, it just takes longer.

Sorry if this has been asked already, but what is the difference between an attack's "Squareness" and its Difficulty?  Which is more influencial to the attack's success?

Also, which is currently better, bronze or iron?  I can't find a clear answer.

I believe the sqareness is related to how good a hit it is, not how easy. the squarer the hit the better.

So squareness is damage potential and difficulty is chance of hitting?  Also is difficulty constant?  Like can a legendary+9000 swordsman hit a difficult strike more easily than a dabbler in swordsmanship?

Not sure, but I think the difficulty rating is calculated using your current skills, so a difficult strike to a Legendary +9000 swordsman is as hard as for a dabbling dirt farmer.

From my experience, my legendary-and-then-some [weapon]dwarf can regularly hit "tricky" or "difficult" strikes.
And trances pretty much mean that you will land the hit if it's not impossible.
Though I think I may have actually landed impossible strikes.

What happens if you're eyes get removed?
How do you completely paralyse someone?
Thanks.

You'll go blind. Although they can't actually be removed and will apparently heal eventually.
A hit to the spine will generally paralyze.

Eyes cannot be removed at this time due to a bug, but they can be damaged, leading to blindness until they heal.

You have to damage the spine enough to paralyze someone, although they can still bite if they have teeth and can still move.

Complete paralysis is impossible, though if you want to temporarily incapacitate someone I recommend strangling them because it's currently really overpowered and is essentially an instant KO.

I have a problem on adventurer mode. I am trying to reclaim my fortress from a bronze colossus that has a body count of about 120 right now, he wiped out a full functioning fortress alone because my army was busy dealing with a forgotten beast at the same time, but not before helping me clear out that siege. (The fortress was pretty doomed anyway.)

Unfortunately with an entire goblin siege, five trolls and all my dwarfs lying dead on this map there is a LOT of vermin. So much vermin that the vermin cause it to take more than 20 minutes for my turn to come again after all the vermin are done moving. Is there anything I can do to get rid of all these vermin so I can fight the colossus without it taking 4 days to walk over?

...Vermin.

I can't seem to sharpen rocks. I pick them up off the ground easy enough, but then I can't do anything with them. Crafting menu simply says I don't have the ingredients needed.
