I have been assigned to kill a bandit in a dungeon. I followed the little guide in the upper-left corner of the screen until it became just three asterisks, but I am standing on a bridge in the middle of the city. Is there someplace I need to be looking out for to gain access to the dungeon?

Edit: I think I found the entrance to the dungeon under the nearby fortress. Was quickly dispatched by the bandit folk down there, but at least I got a good fight in before I died.

Is average quality metal armor still better than excellent quality leather armor?  If so, what occasions warrant the use of leather armor?

yea too bad bandits and stuff down there re-spawn when you leave the area.

i'd guess artifact leather would be better then iron armor till the iron armor it masterwork, maybe longer

it also depends heavily on the material type, leather only has one type metal has quite a few, copper bronze iron steel candy, and i'm not sure if Well-crafted to Exceptional actually makes any difference at all in how well the armor works as the wiki still has no info on it and its kinda hard to test well enough to get a good idea of if it is different or not due to the fact that you cant add anything other then normal crafted armor in arena mode, only toady knows.

One question, why can't I find Dwarves when they're indicated in mountainous regions? The directions shows (***) upon arriving near them. I'll appreciate an answer if anyone knows~

to expand the answer a bit, while the settlements are supposed to be there, they don't actually show in adventure mode, only on the map, same with any other civ except for humans. You can change the entity raws so their prefered home is city instead of whatever they have (mountainhome, tree-city, dark fortress) and they'll build cities in world gen just like humans

Jam a door with its corpse and let all the goblins in. Hey, nobody said it had to be a weapon against your enemies.

You can bet on this ;)

When you have no metal armor available ;)

Is there any way to cross rivers in travel mode (editing or something...)? I'm getting tired of this constant switching.

nope, you could build a bridge over it with fortress mode but you would still have to switch out of travel to cross it.

Yep, this even holds true if the river is completely iced over .... still acts as obstacle that you have to cross via normal movement

the bridge however will count twards letting civs see each other, like if you make a bridge between 2 separate islands they will begin trades.

How can I see more than two pages of my inventory? It seems like I'm never able to see everything I'm carrying, which causes problems when I need to drink water, but it is towards the end of the list. In inventory, I hit the scroll button and it takes me to a second page, but I can't go beyond that for some reason.

I know Toady said that items that were lost if you die not on a site can turn up later but has anyone ever found an item from a previously killed adventurer in such a fashion?

Live long if you can, and prosper by any means necessary.  Any means, Urist.  So pull that lever, or by Armok, I'll lock you outside come next siege.

I've stumbled across old battlefields.

Only vaguely. Made of the same substance and put to the same use, but a bit like comparing a castle and a doublewide trailer.

if i were to wear multiple cruches at the same time instead of just 1 would my crutchwalking skill gain speed be boosted even better?

like each step with 1 crutch is 1 skill, would i get one more skill per step if i had 2?

nvm !!SCIENCE!!'d it, you can not gain crutch walking any faster then 1 per tile moved, but you CAN gain crutch walking AND swimming AT THE SAME TIME!
also if you sneak wile doing it you get all 3!
