You might be wearing something else. Hoods or caps might block it. Press 'r' and see if you can remove anything from your head.

While wandering around the forest I attacked some buzzards beside a river and managed to fall into it. Unfortunately for me, the banks of the river are too high to climb over. I swam up to a dead end at one end of the river, and at the other there is some sort of large body of water. I really can't  seem to see any way out, despite there being some areas of water beside land with upward arrows on them. Can anyone help?

Try alt-moving to the edges of the river. You should be able to climb out if you can swim

Hey. While traveling though some bad lands, I got ambushed by some giant scorpions. It managed to inject one of my men, than died a step later. a few days later, I find his *Brain* and entire spinal column to be rotting -_-. I assume this is lethal. If it is, How long does he have?

Not very.
I'd say take him to fight a titan or something and let him go out in a blaze of glory, rather than a squishy pile of goop.

I'm not sure if there's an ingame way, but you could just alt-printscreen and paste it into something.

I think it's ctrl+printscreen that takes a screenshot of whatever program is selected at the moment. ^^ Don't forget to paste it into paint or something, though.
