Is it normal that after my adventurer died in my camp to a bogeyman, my fort that I started there had a bogeyman?
and has anyone else seen what happens when try to you chop a tree in arena mode?

Not sure about the first, but I've already reported the second as an issue on Mantis. It's swiftly been set as "resolved in next version" by Toady. o3o

the first time I got that strange area I had just written a scroll in arena mode , and suddenly I was in a strange green hill with no tree.
I kinda wondered if it was an intentional easter egg. strangely every time I've gone there it has marble. wonder what would happen if I went there without having marble in the raws.

Too bad trees spawned after that area transition don't fell properly.

Anyway, my question still stands about whether other buildings (like building_custom definitions) can be set as buildable in adventure mode.

I Think the whole needs to be on the floor bit might be from Fort mode dwarves don't stash items in backpacks. they more or less haul then drop them on the floor of the workshop to do tasks.

This is weird, because the workshop reactions work under the same "have on hand or directly under you" logic as other reactions. It's the BUILD menu that won't let you hold construction materials.

workshop reactions are adventure mode reactions that have an additional limitation code that ask if your near a workshop.
then again the game also puts the player in fast travel to do any of these tasks so it could be the site needs the items to appear on site to build like it unloads everything then loads back in with all the proper building plans done.
considering the player can just order folks to build which won't get started until you walk off the map I guess this is why.

Bah, my building project seems to have suddenly stopped.
I have wood, I have workers, there don't seem to be any options set incorrectly... but I choose 'start work' and no progress is made.
Anyone else been having strange issues with adventure building?

I've been having that issue too - I can continue my project if I cut down more trees but it seems like the wood that was already there doesn't get used at all.

Yeah, I ended up cutting more trees and it worked. Maybe the old ones were still listed despite being inaccessible somehow.
Who knows.

Is it possible to use workshops yet? If so, how?

Carpenter's workshops confirmed as buildable and usable, but adventurer reactions need to be defined using them.

I need to science up a dorf to test things like smelters. One good use for those annoying as hell generated fortresses...

EDIT: Yep.

Also, as it was a quick-and-dirty testing reaction set to use ANYTHING as a reagent, cave spider silk thrones ensued.

So you CAN use other workshops, you just can't build them, and they don't have reactions?

Yep. The reactions they have in adventure mode are independent of what hardcoded or fortress-mode raw-defined options are in that workshop. And so far unless Toady added a hidden building token that allows building them in adventure mode, carpenters workshops appear to only be buildable due to hardcoded sorcery.

so what I'm gathering then is while you couldn't build a smelter or forge on your adventurer site, you could go to a fortress or town with one and use it there if you have the reactions listed for adventurers?

And what about digging?  would it be possible once you establish your adventurer site, if you had a pick to dig like a cellar, or even down to hell if you chose, or is that still only fort specific and will require dfhack to accomplish like in the past?
