Hillocks would be ok if they had more taking place, but heck, you never even really see bandits lurking in a hillock like you do in hamlets.

I did have that one instance where I got insta-killed by a kobold archer because I blundered into a hillock that was completely taken over by kobolds. :V

A lack of action though, I have no idea why it seems less common. It might be that mead halls and other "seats of power" attract attention, or it might be geography. I generally don't see bandit camps or megabeast lairs in the mountains, while hillocks of course are frequently close to the mountains. Would logically reduce the total number of hazards surrounding them.

Though that guess on my part would have to be backed up by some !!SCIENCE!! as to whether the hillocks on the edges of dwarven territory receive more Fun than ones close to the fortresses, as well as seeing whether coastal towns (likewise having a large chunk of effectively safe terrain in their radius) are similarly affected relative to towns further inland.

I think it's also that bandits tend to lurk around wells to rob people, do hillocks ever generate wells?

That would be a weird requirement. I assumed it was more just "move to center of town" thing. If that's true, I've never seen a well in a hillock...

Every time I see bandits mugging people it is with a well within the same screen area. Gonna ask Toady about that actually!

Anyone confirm the tick cost for block, dodge and jump?

Block's tick cost only really matters against multiple opponents as a successful block against a solo attacker results in attack denial and opponent recovery. I never tried measuring this as I'd kite multiples.

Dodge on the other hand looks like 3 ticks as in you see an opponent grabbing. Grabs are 4 ticks. When you see it, counts as first the tick, then delivery which is second, then the third and fourth ticks for recovery. When the opponent grabs there are now 3 ticks left. If you dodge adjacent (costing 3), you are even which allows the opponent to launch a new attack only if they are faster then you since they'll act first.

Here if they run another 4 tick (grab or quick attack) because they act first, you'll autoblock or auto dodge. If successful autoblock (grabs can be blocked too) the result is recovery. If autododge/miss, the result is they now feature another attack if they are faster or are in recovery.

Does this sound right?

Not sure how to measure jump.

I'm not really sure. Strangely, it seems like jumping away is just as effective as dodging away in most cases, but I don't know what their relative timing is.

When I think about it, block is 2 ticks (choose to act, then you act, no recovery) since a failed block results in a hit. Presuming you did not die/were injured enough, and can see the next round, the opponent is in recovery or at neutral. I've never seen a follow up attack after block, while I have seen a follow up after dodging adjacent versus a grab.

A question of hearth...

So, I started the game as a member of faction A. I adventured a bit and took over a castle, forming faction B, which I am still lord of. I then forced faction C to take over another castle and then gave it to one of my companions.

I decided I might try to run some quests, so I found the lady I had initially sworn to. The quest sheet says I'm a loyal member of her faction. But when I try to start a conversation inquiring into services I could render, I instead am offered the chance to become her hearthperson again. I offer, and am refused. I mention some recent slayings (including a dragon) and am refused a bit more kindly.

Is this a bug? Does becoming lord of one place automatically rescind your membership in another? Intuitively I'm going with the conversation menu that says I'm no longer her hearthperson, but the quest sheet says I'm still a loyal member. Huh?

She filled the position. They've got 20 active slots by default I think, -1 for the lord/lady, when you hearth somewhere else or become a lord yourself you join/form your own squad and they can fill your old spot.

That makes sense.

20. This proves useful for my idea of accurately simulating generated positions. X3

How do you force another faction to take over anothe place?

So I've been mucking about with Adventure mode and finally stopped dying against silly stuff (mostly) but I'm still having a hard time orienting myself...

All the quests and rumors I get, and the ones I *think* I completed, I have honestly no idea how to track any of it:

The following pictures indicate completed quests in green (What I think I completed, no idea how to check for sure)  and the massive clutter and confusion I have in the quest log to try and locate the new quests

How can I tell what's done and what isn't, and recall the rumor as to what it's about (text given by npcs) from the quest log if it's possible?  Appreciate any help.

Are you in 42.06? A lot of the "Attack/A random ass animal+some random jerk" clutter was cut out already, besides that you gotta filter stuff. If you did a hearthperson quest it will be under agreements.

No I think it's 40.24 the version I'm using.  Basically downloaded the latest LNP version I could find :O  I'll try hunting around for the latest one you mentioned, thanks :)
