So, does anyone here play guitar and/or bass?  I myself have been playing both for quite some time, just over 14 years on guitar, and about 6 or 7 on bass. I havent been in a band since I moved out of Michigan, so I mostly just make recordings and videos of covers and such. I mostly play heavier, fast stuff, but I also enjoy playing some of the lighter stuff. I can provide some links to a few of my projects if anyone is interested.

Also, if anyone is interested in writing some stuff over the internet, Im all for it. I have already written a song with a guy from Norway and another guy from Cali, and its pretty awesome.

I've been playing guitar for... I suppose about a decade now, perhaps a little longer. Probably don't have the time to compose anything, but I'll peek in here now and then in case anything interesting develops.

Sorry for the necropost, but  I didnt feel like starting a new topic (and its my topic. :P )

I have uploaded a few new videos to youtube, including some new stuff I have been fiddling around with lately, comments are welcome.

Its metal, but not over the top fast and super heavy.

Learning guitar right now and getting hard to play its  6th string ,any suggestion for that.
Also looking for online free tutorials.

As for this, I dont know any places for good tutorials, but I can attempt to give you some guidance if you would like.
For your specific problem, make sure you are holding the guitar correctly first off, it should be reasonably parallel to your body and make sure your fret hand thumb is placed on the back of the neck, other than that, it will just take some time to get adjusted to it.

Thanks! I actually almost finished the song, just need to figure out a good ending to it. I wrote some drums and basslines to it as well.

http://www.mediafire.com/?zt7sat31fbtk6sg

Drums (for about half of it) and bass are midi, but written by me. Still playing around with VST for some decent sounding drums.

Sentientdeth, Im always down to do some compiliation stuff, you have anything recorded?

Absolutely, and I could probably help you out with the midi as well, as it is my primary means of musicality.  I usually compose on guitar or bass and transfer my ideas over to Guitar Pro.

Hearsay Heresy (now defunct):
Powernoise band I wrote some drumtracks for before they all stopped talking to me (never start a band with your 2 closest friends)

Some of my older stuff - http://www.myspace.com/sentientdeth
All my newer stuff goes here - http://www.soundcloud.com/sentientdeth

I use Guitar Pro for all of my rock/metal/post-rock/jazz/blues tracks - GP6 has an awesome synthesizer set for guitar/bass/drums and some other instruments as well as a great effects engine.  I use reNoise for anything electronical in nature.

I actually do something very similar nowadays, Ill start writing guitar parts on guitar, then I tab i tout with Tabit and use that in combination with guitar to write my harmonies and counter rhythms, along with tweaking the main guitar parts. Thats also where I add the drums and bass, then export to midi and use acid to record the guitars and such. Works out pretty good. I use Tabbit because its significantly easier for me to quickly put out my stuff than Guitar Pro or Powertab.

As for your stuff, I dig it dude, I could definitely do a lot of stuff with your style. And wow at gp6, it actually sounds pretty decent, almost like real instruments. So much better than GP5s RSE, which I think sounded like dick.

But yeah, message me on here with some instant messenger names and maybe we can get some shit goin!

Hi, fellow baldhead! :) I mean I'm kind of bald - I trim it, I guess, to a few millimeters. I gather you're fully blown, so to say. Is it much bother, do you shave with a common razor, if you don't mind my asking?

On the matter of your latest song, it reminded me of Prince of Persia: Warrior Within very much, in the beginning. So much, in fact, that I even wanted to ask you to do some covers and then share the resources. ::) In any case, check this game's soundtrack out, if you're not familiar with it already.

I used to use a razor, did for about 2 or 3 years, then it just got to be too much of a pain in the ass, so now I just use a set of hair clippers set to the lowest setting and just hack it all off that way. Its also how I shave my face, so all in all it takes about 10 minutes to shave.

And Ill check it out, if its cool Ill do a cover for ya.

I also have a pretty wicked cover in the works, the Tristram song from Diablo. Its probably going to take a little bit to do, since there is so many layered parts, but its coming along and sounding pretty damn awesome. :)

As for the Warrior Within stuff, any song in particular, so I dont have to search around too much?

Yeahaw! Props for Tristram... Are you going to count how many layers there are?

I guess I use hair clippers, too, just didn't know what they're called. So, real shaving isn't so cool... Say, have you got a more detailed photo of you somewhere online? Maybe I'm doing something wrong with my clippers.

And I'll be damned - I can't find the song which your song reminded me of. It's actually almost note for note the first 20 seconds, or so. Argh! I've probably just listened to your song too many times now, so I'm getting confused. The closest correlation I can get is this...

I've just listened to about a hundred variations of different Warrior Within themes... The Internet seems to be saturated with them, and there doesn't seem to be any song which hasn't been covered already... I know! How about not Warrior Within? I had a dream where I had a band and a real good electric guitar with all stuff and with this I did rock arrangements of a couple of Prince of Persia songs. In fact, I've done them in real life in a tab editor. Well, as I lost any hope of fulfilling my dreams, I arranged them trimmed down to only a couple of guitars. The songs are Time Only Knows and Main Theme from Prince of Persia (2008). WARNING! These are not rock songs! However, I'd like to hear them in rock arrangement once. My arrangements are in TuxGuitar format (e: which could be exported to txt in emergency), if you're interested. But I'd have to work on them to include some bass and drums.

Lets see here, I have about 6 seperate tracks on the first minute and a half of Tristram, mostly scrap tracks, I need to add some delay on some of the tracks, I also need to add in another track here and there. I also might replace a few parts with my bass for some of the low end brass instruments to help fill it out.

As for a picture of me, this is my most recent one:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I can also see the similarities between that track and mine, mostly just the first few notes sort of sound like the same I use. As for the other Prince of Persia songs, you could export just the guitar to text for me for the Main Theme, I listened to it and I think I could do some pretty awesome stuff with it. It seems to almost BEG for something heavy to be put to it.

I expected Tristram to have more tracks, to be fair. In my attempts to play it by various Internet tabs, I've come to regard it as some kind of multi-layer king. Do you hoot the owl yourself? :)

That's not nearly enough detail, I must say, but you would say that you have quite a stubble, wouldn't you?

My arrangement for the Main Theme turned out to be 3-guitar, properly (I tried to make it work for one, my acoustic, it never did well). Well, that's how I did it, and that's how TuxGuitar exported it: link. I don't know why it chose this extension, but it's actually just a text file. Tracks 1 and 3 are overdriven, Track 2 is clean guitar, just wanted to do it like that for some reason.

Oh, there are definitely more than 6 layers for sure, I was just saying that I have 6 layers recorded at this moment, the intro only has a few layers here and there, and some fade in and out. And from listening to the track, a lot of the layers play either the same thing on the same side to give more fullness, or just VERY slight variation of one of the parts. You also have to remember there is a LOT of delay on some of the guitar parts as well.
Here is a rough teaser of part of it, its VERY rough, and the ending is kind of retarded, I screwed it up a little bit and have no idea what I want to do with part of the bass at the end:
http://www.mediafire.com/?g87x7dhhhbh7rg1
(NOT A FINISHED PRODUCT)

Stuff is a little bit out of tune here and there, but the idea is there.

Yeah, I tend to have a bit of stubble, but my facial hair grows pretty fast.

Ill check your track out here in a second, Ill probably use it as a guide, but I have a bunch of ideas for that song from listening to it earlier.

Edit: Upon further listening to the original Tristram it almost sounds like he recorded the guitar parts without a metronome leading to parts being SLIGHTLY out of sync, giving it the impression of more guitar layers than there really are. Only a few parts seem like this though. I might try to replicate that as well. But first I need to set up a good delay for some of the acoustic bits. :)

Another factor leading to what sounds like more layers than there are is he puts delay on guitar parts, and then plays the same part (at times) 1 beat apart, usually the chords, on alternating panned channels. Its really damn awesome.

Well, I thought it's a good one. I actually like that in some places it doesn't follow the original closely. Do it your way. Although you must have a hoot somewhere there. Also, would you mind adding some kind of a heavy improv solo at the end or somewhere?

Im actually planning on  sprinkling in some heavy stuff here and there like this:
http://www.mediafire.com/?7bf3roul9iceg4o

I dont want to have TOO much, and I dont want it too overpowering but this song seriously just begs for distortion and all of that stuff. Like a friend said to me, "Its already so god damn metal." Its the truth! :D

PS this version has 11 separate tracks and at times has 8 layers running at the same time. I might add more layers to fill everything out a bit more, but I need to redo the bass lines and then continue on with the track.
