Currently, if we fail to kill the zed they get an insta-hit on us. Maybe they get a coinflip if they survive, failure meaning they couldn't bite us?

Hmm. That idea might work! Let's look at the numbers:

Chance of Escaping Unscathed (Current % vs with Proposed Coin Toss %)
Low Risk:
After 1 round: 83% vs 92%
After 3 rounds: 58% vs 63%
After 5 rounds: 40% vs 42%
After 10 rounds: 16% vs 16%
Medium Risk: 4/6
After 1 round: 66% vs 83%
After 3 rounds: 30% vs 39%
After 5 rounds: 13% vs 16%
After 10 rounds: 2% vs 2%
High Risk: 3/6
After 1 round: 50% vs 75%
After 3 rounds: 13% vs 23%
After 5 rounds: 3% vs 6%
After 10 rounds: 0% vs 0%

Looks like it only really changes the outcome for the first few rounds and doesn't seem to imbalance the game when taken to the extreme. Hmm, would the coinflip only apply when you have a tactical advantage, or is it always there?

Updated -Poll: Should Civilians receive combat rolls? If they do, they will be treated as BAREHANDED and have the potential to suffer INJURY as per player rules.

I try to recruit some people to redirect the water main down into the sub basement, and then assist anyone needing help. If outnumbered by zombies at any point, I will flee, otherwise attack until outnumbered or injured.

@ Eagle-eye:

Let me know if this isn't what you meant to do or if you'd like to add any other free actions to your move. Otherwise, everything looks do-able!
Day:
1AP spent on flooding(?) the sub-basement.
Night:
1AP spent on guarding/fighting with the group.

Maybe being in a tactically sound position gives you a bonus to your roll?

"Desmond! These guys look hungry, Do you mind whipping something up for them? I'll give you a hand where I can. I'll ask them whether they have any allergies, and whether they want something specific, given the circumstances."

Lozz now had a list in her mind. Meet all the civilians, talk to them, introduce herself, tell them of Desmond's culinery expertise and ask of anything food-wise that'll affect his ingredients list. Generally make them feel slightly more comfortable before they eventually get on the chopper outa here.

"I'll make some of my famous thick red chocolate mousse." Desmond replies, seeming a bit peeved. He adds "It used to sell $100 a serving down at my restaurant, now I'm dishing it out for free...pride goeth before the fall and all that..."

@Kilowatt

Desmond recalls his earlier words... "Well the chairs and the tables will make excellent barricades, if I do say so myself! The tables look very well made.  We'll have enough food, even if we have to smash up the vending machines-We could just use money if we get the power on...
I found a vent in the ceiling-too tight for me, but any of you smaller than me could fit. I would suggest bringing a light source.
We also found paper towels, dish detergent, cutting boards, a small torche, 2 propane tanks, and alot of tinfoil and cake tins"

He adds he found some knives, too tiny and flimsy to be weapons, aluminium foil and of course lots of ingredients...in fact, he looks busy whipping something good smelling right at the moment and tells you to get the Hell out of his kitchen. Talk about rude!

Action, Night: Desmond whips up a large batch of his legendary thick red chocolate mousse for everyone, and fills any specialty orders he might get. Afterwards he escorts the civilians up to the helicopter pad for evac.
Action, Day: Sleep this morning! I wake up round noon to get started cooking.

that's all. I intend to either drown or flush out the supposed zombie horde.

Don't do that. You'll kill zombies, but you'll cripple the hospital's power supply. So far, they appear to be contained in the basement- no reason to fuck us over.

IMPORTANT!

I just sent the following PM to Eagle eye, who as you may or may not know has incurred an infection *risk*-not 100%, but still...

Quote
Since you took a bite of the gum anyway, but have a fairly good chance of not getting infected due to washing...

I'm gonna ask your character sleep apart from the rest of the group, at least 5 days. On the 2nd floor, so nothing can get you that doesnt get past us first. Please, dont group with someone unless theres at least 2+ of them along with you, in case you spazz out. And of course, report any symptoms. :)

Don't mistake my intentions. We *will* kill you if you do not cooperate. This is for your safety as well as ours. Do you understand? and if it comes to it, I trust you will take your own life rather than become one of them.

I'm waiting for a reply, but I felt everyone needs to be aware. Be careful. If were lucky, it will turn out to be nothing...

@ Eagle-eye/Kilowatt:

Yay strategic differences! Game's becoming entertaining. As everything becomes more messed up (things WILL go south, though the rate at which it does depends on how smart/lucky you are) options will all enter the grey-area. For the most part, I will respect the wishes of individual players, but if there's significant disagreement, you should settle it on this board (whether appealing to logic, or pure "in character" stubbornness. Or you can put it to a vote. Bottom line though: no matter what your characters may think about the others, YOU should be civil to other PLAYERS.

@ Dwarmin: In case anyone's curious, the chances that Doc Aurelius was actually infected is only around 3%. ;) He did a good job rinsing after all.

Since you took a bite of the gum anyway, but have a fairly good chance of not getting infected due to washing...

A few clarifications are in order. The longest incubation rate possible is a 6, which is day night day night day night (6 action phases, the equivalent of 3 full turns) from the time the infective agent is introduced into the body.

What was the chance that Doctor Marcus Aurelius was actually infected from the Chewing gum? As it turns out, not that high.

He would need to fail all 4 rinses in order to miss the contaminant. That's 0.54= 6.25%. On the off chance that he did ingest some unsavory component, he has a 50% chance to resist it. That means overall there's only 3.125% chance that he will turn.

Assuming that he was extremely unlucky, and rolled a 6 for incubation, time would have started counting down before Turn 2 even started. That means 2 phases have already passed, and even the most rigorous quarantine would only require him to be kept under watch for 4 more phases, so Turns 3 & 4.

I hope that helps :)

Edit: Please note that Turn 3 will NOT be posted on the 30th. :)

If the characters Joseph (Kilowatt) and Marcus (Eagle-eye) can't reach consensus, the two of you may ask another character to weigh in.

If everyone who has an opinion on the issue shares their reasoning/argument for a course of action and no compromise can be reached, I'll read through the posts and determine which side has the most support (thus counting up the "votes").

Update: I've been meaning to ask about this once the game started but forgot about it until now. Can someone provide me with a list of guns (revolvers, pistol, whatever) that uses compatible ammunition with the Smith & Wesson Model 29? Don't be surprised if glocks, hunting rifles, and the S&W all end up firing interchangeable bullets. It's not something that will irk me personally, but if you're a gun fanatic who would be peeved by it, throw some names & descriptions my way ;) Much obliged.

I'd like to make a point: all we're using the power for is lighting, if anything. Lighting will not help us should that zombie horde decide to come up in the night. Presumably they outnumber us considerably, and I don't really fancy the idea of having to leave on day 3 as they push us to the rooftop. We have others sources of light, if necessary, but not other sources of mass-zombie killing.

Presumably they outnumber us considerably,

Your assumption is correct.

A few clarifications.
-The helipad lights has its own generator, so you don't need to worry about powering it.
-As more floors in the hospital are lit, the more curious the hordes will become (and they'll trek here from far and wide).
-Eagle-eye is right: Flooding the basement & sub-basement is a viable one-shot mass zombie killer. e.g. You can lure them into the Basement from the south stair well, and exit through the north stairwell as the place is being flooded. Please Note:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

However, power isn't just used for lighting! So far, you have discovered that it's can also used for...
