There are clues. Just look closely. Picking things off the ground wouldn't hurt.

Yeah, I got hit with magma mist too, and spent about 30 turns being shoved around a room and down a few ledges, only to suffocate.  Guess I'll need to try again.

I found the burial grounds and walked around them thinking it used to be a dormitory of sorts.  Boy was I wrong.

I manage to come out, but didn't find much of a treasure. Did I miss something? Well I missed the burial grounds as well and to bad that there wasn't anything I could fight. Nevertheless the Fortress is FUN! Need to try a few more times!

I had loaded up the treasure area with a bunch of artifacts... but it turns out that artifacts scatter even if you put them inside a lair.

I play as a goblin from the main land (not the goblin island on the east side of the map) He can equip dwarf armors. To find it export the map from legend mode or try to reclaim the fortress and it will show you where it is.

You have to find it yourself, thats part of the fun. Also, its very easy to find forts on your map...

The Adventures of Urist McAdventurer:
This is a alunite block. Engraved on it is a poor quality story, with worse quality handwriting. It menaces with spikes of mediocracy. It was found by the skeleton of a dwarf during the 7th exploration of Treasuredepths.

Just completed the dungon.

The ending is one hell of a downer. I just go back to the halls, nothing else! No epic boss! No Adamantine sword! No HFS!

Unless I'm missing something...

Lovechild do you have a save with fortress still running? Treasures should be in some heavy container with some more heavy stuff. The heavier the less it moves after abandoning (or at least so I heard)

Thing is, I found out that items don't scatter after abandoning if you put them inside a lair. So I put every artifact the fortress produced inside the lair, plus a few gold crafts and some masterwork items. Then it turned out that artifacts, unlike normal items, do scatter even if left in a lair... So the treasure is a bit anticlimactic, yes.
