Killing the leader and then dismembering his friends
« on: November 24, 2010, 10:39:56 pm »

Does anyone else do this? I only kill the person I have to  and then proceed to rip off his goons ears or smash their teeth out but then just leave them like that.

I go in, get the job done, finish off the stragglers, head back to town. I don't tend to just mess around with them unless I just NEED to be a total Urist McDouche.

I tend to like to pretend like it gives me a reputation and I also do it to see if I can find them as a later adventurer and be like oh its the guy whose nose I bit off.

Killing them gives you more of a reputation, though, as they go on your kill list. I don't know if they bleed out while you're traveling counts, though.

You need to strike the killing blow on them for them to be counted, having them bleed out from your stabbing won't count.

I often wander off once I deem them as good as dead, wasn't aware that letting them bleed out leads to no credit.

It does show up in the legends though, saying (for example) "In the early summer of 1051, Alath mortally wounded the human Alu Pregnantmerchant, who bled to death, with a  steel battle axe in the Diminished Hills."

I'm pretty sure it does count. Looking back over my adventurer in Legends mode, I saw lots of people who bled to death from wounds I inflicted. If they bleed to death, the last blow inflicted counts as the "killing blow," and both the inflicter and the weapon used will get the credit.

Yes it does, I just went and stabbed a spear through the chest of a rhesus macaque, then left it to bleed to death on a fresh adventurer. It was listed as a kill on my adventurer when it died. It does not, however, register as a kill on the spear, so it looks like you you have to give the killing blow with the weapon for it to registered on the weapon itself.

Humanoids die too quickly to really work over. Night beasts I can thoroughly dismember or shatter (depending on weapon) each limb starting from the right arm ending with the right leg, then go for the eyes and mouth. Even impossible strikes gain exp, so while it may take awhile to finish, I get better with the practice.

Actually night creatures are a nasty surprise - often even when you've shattered all their limbs they still manage to get in a lucky hit on say your leg with their carving knife and then you're screwed.

They can't use their knife if the arm wielding it is the first to go. But I did get surprised by teeth in my foot once, before my shield use reached the upper ranges. Another good reason to carry a crutch.

Somehow they always end up hurting me even when they're laying there beaten down.

i'm only particularly nasty when they wound me badly. taking out a peasant, i went to kill some bandits. the guy messed up my arm enough that i dropped my sword. so naturally, i grabbed him by his exposed guts, threw him down on the ground, then sat ontop of him for the next 5 minutes slamming him in the face with my shield. fuck deserved it too.
