I was playing my nice little fortress when a forgotten beast arrived inside one of the caverns underground.

It was a giant green lizard with a poisonous sting. From what I've seen it could safely swim underwater, walk on the ground and fly, so I immediately walled off any cavern access.

Few minutes later I get an announcement: Urist McHauler cancels whatever, interrupted by forgotten beast. The thing was inside my goods storage room, 3 levels above caverns level. I am absolutely 100% positive that there was no way it could get inside fortress by usual means.

Magic?

have you completely mapped out the cavern? are there any caves around that could have downward passages?
other than that, things have been known to teleport.

I don't think it could fly over the wall in that situation.

There was no cavern access except the walled one.

Up/down stairs allow access from the tiles below them, if constructed over empty space.  I made the same mistake with HFS.

Stairwell is inaccessible from below. Only from one-tile wide side passage, that was walled off.

No magic here. I guess airtight lockdown wasn't so airtight. Didn't know that things could fly diagonally and upward at the same time. Oh well.

This happened to me... and the flying whatever it was had deadly dust that caused instant paralysis and death
