The first thing I thought was 'Failed embark, and only the cat survived!'

Then reading on I thought 'Then they did a reclaim...'

Then one night the entire rest of the 10 man camp and workshop just ... vanished.

How can 10 man and workshop just vanish? Huh!?   :o

And what about that one whose boots were wound near acidic lake? If he made suicide then why take boots off? Or if he was going to swim then why not take off all clothes, weird?  :-\

The miner was the first to breach the circus on that embark, is all. They managed to seal it with soil later but the reclaim opened it up again.

Embarked on a haunted volcano. I am currently terrorized by skeletal alligators.

They were actually trying to build an obsidian tower in the ocean. The miner dug a channel and then decided to go stand at the bottom of it.

On fire he ran off and dug his way up to get into the camp.
He then ran into the booze stockpile.

This is good. However, the other day a Connecticut man broke was stabbed. Then he broke into someones' house, punched them and then ran into the bathroom and died, of his stab wounds.

Hrmmm... do underground coal veins actually burn in DF? A reenactment might be fun...

Unmined stone wont burn, unfortunately.  One could mine out a vein and then catch it on fire, that would then burn forever and cause much laggy !!FUN!!

Thank you. Now every time I see a mining accident on the news, I'll think "A section of the cavern has collapsed!"

The one miner that disappeared and they only found his boots sounds like he thought he'd take a little swim.

White Island's quite amazing.  It's one of the only active volcanoes in the world in which you can get right up to the crater(s), which is about as dangerous as crossing the road.  I used to live in Tauranga, from which it's a tiny island off in the distance with a constant white plume extending from it.

only a camp cat survived. He was found some days afterwards by the resupply ship, and dubbed "Peter the Great". He was taken back safely to the mainland, and went on to father many a kitten[3][4]

Guess what?

At 2:39 PM local time today, approximately six and a half hours ago, the Pike River coal mine in New Zealand exploded. Twenty-nine miners had been trapped inside for three days.

There were no survivors.

...goddamn.
