I know it's mostly just gloating, but check this out:

I approve. Especially of the way there's almost nothing on the surface.

Wow, that's beautiful.  I agree -- having practically everything below surface and little more than a staircase + watermill above ground enhances the dwarfyness of it all.

Very nice. SWEET FORT.

Burning and raping the land is recreational. Where business is concerned, though, sustainability is the name of the game.

Who cares if you're cave-adapted when there is NO REASON to go above ground? :)

Now will you be so kind as to turn that fortress into a quickfort file?

I have absolutely no idea what's going on in this fort any more. Migrants arrive, they die for some reason, the fort is flooded for another reason, then dwarves go mad, more dwarves die and I'm just laughing in my distress.

quickfort file?

Basically turn the fort into a set of CSV files with the entire design lain out.

Like you'd have a CSV file for each level which quickfort could run and it would designate that level for digging automatically.

That's a megaproject in itself! I didn't see a way to convert a finished fortress into csv files, but then I didn't look to hard either. I've been working on this design since a few months before 31.1 came out and only recently finished.

Well there's no 'easy' way. :)

It would involve writing down the way you built the thing and filling in the spreadsheet basically. Probably you would do it level-by-level unless some levels repeat.

Anyway it was just a thought. Very nice design!

wow, that is one of the most aesthetically pleasing things I have ever seen.  The fact that there's nothing on the surface, no exploratory mining shafts, perfect geometry, etc. gives it a cold antiseptic feel that's pretty impressive.  The dead surface is great too.  It's kind of like a vault for nuclear winter survivors.

People build things outside mountains?

I dont think I ever have actually. Although my latest fortress has a pimped out entrance.

Huge obsidian block paved road with statues and a wall around it, and then a solid gold paved road. I like to think they go nicely with the blood splatter in the snow.

Technically, Roadhouse is at the foot of a mountain leading out onto badlands. The drawbridge that blocks the surface entrance is solid gold.

Besides, you can't let the smelly elves see the awesome!

I don't even let them in. The elves park in a quartzite trading depot specially prepared for them.

By the way did you know Quartzite is magma-safe?
