that has artillery trained on our ally's capitol

This makes a compelling case for not invading them.  Sure, they might not hurt us, and we might curbstomp them, but they'll devastate the almost-city-state of South Korea in the process.  Remember, Seoul pretty much is South Korea.
Can't forget Starcraft. Seoul and SC, that is pretty much SK.
And wonderful Korean food.

I'm a little concerned over developments, but I'll only start to consider things changing when N Korean troops are found over the border. They have been exchanging fire and artillery for years, and aside from a few tunnels no troops dare try to take the border.

I can't say this worries me at all. If Korea actually tries anything for real (or the US/korea decides enough's  enough), there will be a big curb stomp of a war as the world's two biggest badasses simultaneously turns on little the little famined braggart to the north.
Then comes the real war as S Korea is left on their own to fight loyalist insurrections for a few decades. Unless China decides to annex the place.

Then of course, I do not have family or friends in neither the US nor China's armies.

TBH, I think that China annexing NK is the best scenario. There's no way SK could handle the burden that NK would be.

Not sure I trust China all that much.

I trust them more than I trust NK.

And wonderful Korean food.

OMG THE CUTENESS!
OMG the deliciousness.

I don't think living things look delicious.  Cook it and slice it up into a nicely prepared puppy pot pie and then get back to me.

I wonder how conflicts will play out nowadays. I'm sure the time for large armies brawling it out is nearing an end, yet I don't see Cold-War-Esque standoff diplomacy happening either.

Personally, I think that China turning on North Korea would be unlikely at best. Relations between Pyongyang and Beijing appear cordial partially because China is fully aware that North Korea's few nukes could just as easily strike major Chinese cities. The real reason behind China not invading North Korea is because of the subsequent refugee flood north. They either deal with the economic burden of sheltering refugees or ignore them and be shunned by the international community.

be shunned by the international community.

And since China is emerging with a thriving economy in an otherwise rocky world... Shunning means a stern talking to.

I do believe that both sides' EWS uses the Starcraft announcer saying "*NUCLEAR LAUNCH DETECTED*".
