I really hope so  8) (as long as he finally implements disguises, so the psychically linked empires don't immediately find out).  Preferably, if there are no survivors or witnesses, there should be no way for anyone to discover your little "business venture."

Nobody but Toady and Threetoe can answer that. Try the future of the fortress thread in General Discussion. Put your question in green text if you want him to answer it. Personally, I think

regardless, the slime shooter will be completed, come hell or high water, which are both entirely plausible setbacks at this point.

It would be cool if each caravan group had their own logo or symbol, so you could attack one of their members, steal something with their logo on it, wear that piece of clothing and attack somebody else, to keep the heat off you and to frame them.

From what I've gathered from the almighty Toady, that is one of the goals.

Fraction costumes? Sounds awesome.

Attacking a caravan to eliminate concurrence ? It should handle itself.

Once offer/demand mechanisms are in, less of a product will mean higher prices. This is a really basic mechanism and should be in very soon.
Then, once caravan move around the map, you can attack them. Since they are no longer spawned out of thin air, you keep goods out of the market.
So, the prices will go higher.

Basically, the game doesn't care if you did it to eliminate competition or just for fun, the consequences will be the same. Now, if you happen to set up a caravan at the same time...

Also makes banditry have consequences besides people just hating you.
Opens up the option of starving out enemies too, in theory at least.

As for disguises, yeah, would love those. Less omnipotence from NPC would be fab also.
Then again, would need people to use skills like sneaking and actually retreating before they get horribly injured so that it is possible for you to be spotted without it being obvious to you.

Also, you need to hide the corpses, or they will hire some peasants to run another caravan :D(Throw near a lair of a night creature? Dump them in a volcano? Throw into the ocean?)

I'm still waiting for CSI: Dwarf Fortress.

When the Crime and Punishment stuff comes in for adventure mode, and NPC base their justice on eye witness and reputation system.

Then when we get crime in Fort Mode, the fortress guard could try to solve theft and murder by performing investigations and asking around. Maybe in the Justice Screen, we can get a read out of the investigation, and watch it unfold.

Well if the investigation stuff happened automatically in adventure mode, it would be awesome if they came up and tried to ask you stuff, and if you have a high enough lire skill you could tell them lies.
