go to entity_default.txt, copy the MOUNTAIN entity, rename it to something else, and swap out [CREATURE:DWARF] for [CREATURE:EQUIPMENT_WAGON]

I have no idea if that would work or not, however. You probably have to make the wagons intelligent, and even then I don't know...

Also, if you want them to fight/mine, they need a grasper.

So, assuming that it'd work, would each of your wagons fall apart to logs when they died? Would those be usable as building materials? Crafting beds out of their dead friends? Although how would they even get to the workshops?

I'm sure it won't work, but if only it would. Would be interesting to see how it'd turn out at the very least.

I would assume that they would fall apart if they died. I'm betting that it won't work though unless there have been some major changes to wagons in DF 2010, since when someone tried this back in 40d all of his wagon creatures just instantly "scuttled".

yeah the only way one would have a non scuttled wagon is a unscuttled one.

by unscuttled I mean Zombie wagons, and those don't move that much(or all) during my 40d days

Okay, so I genned a pocket world.
Find site, tab, tab, civs... what's that?

Wagons War.

Legends: the wagons switch general and king every year. They get trounced by dwarves very frequently.
"The defenders were lead by the wagon Ineth Luckstricken".
Oh, so goblins joined on the wagon hating... bandwagon.

Aaaaand all my wagons peasants scuttled on embark. Logs everywhere. Oh well.
And how would you play an undead wagon civ?

Add the [UNDEAD] tag.

I agree with Urist. Steampunk is like Darth Vader winning Holland's Next Top Model. It would be awesome but not something I'd like in this game.
Unfortunately dying involves the amputation of the entire body from the dwarf.

so make the wagons an unplayable civ, make them awesome traders and merchents that bring a crapload of goods.  Hopefully when they arrive they deconstruct and leave all of their goods for you to helpfully clean up and store for them.

They might need a puller, as wagons do.

As the wagons appear to wage war on your civ after the loss of so many caravans, only to all immediately explode into even more logs at the edge of your map. ;)

I don't think that turns them into zombies just makes them to have a race turn into zombies.
The only way one could do that is by changing the flags to...

...edit: oh wait runesmith hasn't been updated for .17 or .18

I have no idea why I find this so hilarious.

Give cats natural metallic armor and throw them in your danger room.  Also allow their mouth and tail to grasp (shield in mouth, weapon in tail xD)  Have a cat based military.  You know, do the same with all tame animals xD send in the cats as shock troops to disrupt the archers

Wagons can survive worldgen, but any kind of fortress or adventure mode wagon creature is completely unworkable. Wagons can only exist as a special exception when they arrive with a caravan and have a valid path to the depot. This is because they are 3x3 creatures, and only have limited pathfinding code to get from the edge of the map to the depot and back again. If at any point they lose that path, they instantly scuttle.

I would assume that they would fall apart if they died. I'm betting that it won't work though unless there have been some major changes to wagons in DF 2010, since when someone tried this back in 40d all of his wagon creatures just instantly "scuttled".

^What he said, with the addition that if Toady added real pathfinding for multi-tile creatures, I think he would have said something.

I think it's a vastly amusing thought that elephants are so afraid of heights that when Dwarves invented the Z-axis, they couldn't bear to face dwarves in combat anymore.
