Blizzard. The loss of Blizzard was a serious blow to me.
Valve. :(

Controversial.

Maxis, Bullfrog
Also, I remember that Activision used to be cool, and didnt Infogrames publish cool games once, then turned into Ubisoft or summat and went through that whole zombification progress?

Also, Microprose.

edit: tbh, I miss my first bicycle and mabye my second girlfriend, but I dont really _miss_ any game company.

You're talking about how they joined Activision, right?

Yeah, it's only later I realize how much that sucks.

True, but relevant nonetheless. Even if one of your favourite companies becomes one of the company-eating, crap spouting megaliths, it still counts, IMHO.

Infogrames went defunct last year from bought out by Namco and turn into Atari which is ironic because they owned Atari.

Lots of good entries in this thread. So more recently, Pandemic. I've only played one game by them, The Saboteur, but I absolutely adored it. And then EA axed them.

Okay, so thats not really what I meant, I guess. Because the point Infogrames lost their coolness points must have been like somewhere between 5 and 10 years ago. I can't remember the details, obviously, and I cba to research :D

I'd say Quest, but apparently they're still around. Why they haven't produced a new Ogre Battle game since '99, I don't know and probably don't care, but they're due for it damnit.

Hudson Soft, I guess. Far East of Eden is apparently fairly awesome, or something. Couldn't tell due to moonspeak.

Neverland waaait a second. They're still around!? The guys who did Chaos Seed alse did Rune Factory. My mind is blown.

Whoa what? Neverland did... whoa what

... Pandemic shut down? I didn't hear. What the heck, industry. :|

I think we can agree EA has axed WAAAAY too many companies.  Playing my old copy of Red Alert 2 makes me want to cry.  :'(

All in all the company that I miss the most was WestWood, just so many gems came out of that company, but now that EA owns them it's all just retarded 3D remakes of the old classics.  I never really played any other games from any other company I missed. :\

Are you serious, or trolling? Dungeon keeper, Syndicate, Theme Park, Populous... A few of the best games ever made.

Also: some bullfrog guys went on to create mucky foot, who created Startopia before they closed down. I would have wanted a sequel to that game.

I'll throw in: Any decent developer that had any games released prior to 2005. Seriously, is it just me or do game development firms go up in smoke like they're illusions during a Vegas magic act? They certainly used to, if they don't still.

You know.. people 20 years from now will say the exact same thing. "Man..  there haven't been any good games since 2015! Games used to be cool!" That's how it always goes. :)

Magic Carpet! Magic Carpet 2!

I miss Maxis and Bullfrog particularly.
