Karr A'krat, a playable insect race.

For those of you without attention spans:


For the rest of you:
To quote the readme, this mod adds a race of giant bipedal wasp-mantises to your game as a playable race (in both Adventure and Fortress mode).  When played in Fortress mode, this race can embark with additional peasants (genderless drones) who can be butchered for meat, used as haulers, or assigned labours by using Dwarf Therapist (found at http://code.google.com/p/dwarftherapist/downloads/list).

IT IS STRONGLY ADVISED THAT YOU USE DWARF THERAPIST IF YOU WISH TO USE THE ADDITIONAL PEASANTS FOR ANYTHING OTHER THAN MEAT.  If you don't use Therapist, you can't assign them any labours.

This mod plays nicely with the Wanderer's Friend mod and includes a few semi-pointless creature_variations left over from the TC mod this race was intended to be part of (just ignore them).  I'm expecting it to turn out to be rather buggy (yeaaah), so if you run into issues be sure to shout out in this thread.

I don't have time to try it out right now, but I'm curious what the venom does.

Paralysis, for now.  I was intending it to cause necrosis and fainting but necrosis doesn't play nicely with the arena, I suspect.  I couldn't get it to show up, even when the syndrome appeared.

I play a human type race that at embark had a choice to bring along those drones.  I did in hopes of using them as haulers but I can't give them any orders via Therapist (or more accurately, they don't show up in Therapist).  Is this a function only if I'm playing as the Karr A'Krat?

Yeah, since the drones are a caste of the insect civ, they count as members of the fort as well as animals, so they can be directed to do stuff.  If you aren't playing the a'krat they're just haulers, really.

Would I be correct in assuming that they look a bit like DnD's Thri'keen?

Pretty much, except the drones have a set of wings and the breeders have two pairs.

Updated the mod with a few small fixes.  Nothing major - added slow learning to the drones and fixed up a missing position.
