The Exquisite Armory
« on: November 21, 2010, 09:33:57 am »

Well, I thought this might be a good idea:

A thread in which to discuss the minutiae of preferred weapons, their materials, properties, and uses.

So here goes.
I'll start right off with my current favourite.

The Halberd

With a penetration-on-area of 8.000 on 20.000, the Halberd seems to be the single best available weapon for the purpose of severing limbs, even surpassing the Greataxe and Scimitar. The decent stabbing attack gives it a nice bonus in versatility as well, and the presence of the shaft bashing option doesn't hurt either, although it is comparatively useless. Nonetheless, even though it requires multigrasp, I've grown very fond of my -Iron Halberd-. Four turns, and the enemy is made four limbs lesser. A stab to the head, and that's a deal done as well.

While the lack of a shield unfortunateöy makes a suit of armour required to protect against ranged attacks (and armour is a cowards clothing!) - unless one carries the shield along and drops it whenever the melee begins - the sheer hacking and chopping and severing and general dividing of the thing makes up for it, imo.

Silver Maul

I recently found this beauty. Is it actually the strongest blunt weapon one could hope to find, or simply an oversized gimmick?

Out of silver? Is silver really that good for blunt impact?

I haven't really used the silver maul, but I do love the Halberd, it's like an axe with the tip of the sword taped to it, and will decimate pretty much everything in my games (killed a dragon long ago with a steel halberd, highest kill I ever got)

also, if you invest in throwing, GET A PICK. Picks are outright deadly when thrown, and will smash apart faces or tear organs to shreds.

Thrown greataxes, scimitars, two-handed swords, and well anything edged and choppy are also devastating.

Of note even Masterwork Sharp Obsidian stones really aren't significantly different than blunt river rocks. Now I just pick up and throw all edged weapons that I find.

I can just imagine dropping reanimated paratrooper werecarp onto unsuspecting towns, and mopping up the new converts to make into even more werecarp paratroopers.

Halberds don't need to be multigrasp you know. I dual wield halberds and two handed swords all the time. But, then again, you could wield 10 swords and 15 shields using some wrestling exploits.

I once thirtyfold-wielded shields just by exploiting the [r]emove command.

Now all you need to do is wield 300 shields and 300 spears and then singlehandedly reenact Thermopylae

Sure, as soon as I find someone who will million-wield spears, bows and shields against me  :o

I think I might sig that.

Anywho, I don't think high contact area is a good thing, unless it perhaps adds to accuracy. My steel pick lops off limbs, spills guts and severs heads more consistently than any other weapon I've used, and it's got a penetration on area of 4.0 on .1, with a velocity multiplier of 2x. And then you can wield it one-handed without penalty, and it's about the size of a war hammer, (effects accuracy on small enemies?), and it's the only weapon I've successfully gotten a one-hit kill on a giant, (that was a bronze pick, mind you).

This <<+Steel Pick+>> w/ encrusted native platinum, rubies, and menacing spikes of black opal, is one for the record books.

-edit
oh, and yes, silver is the most powerful material for blunt weapons, and the weakest for edged:

The best weapon of them all? The human/elf/dwarf body.

When you said
The human/elf/dwarf body
...I had to think of how I once smacked a wrestler to death with dual-wielded mutilated wrestler corpses.
