You mass construct slabs to be engraved?

No, I meant how to completely disable them.
I don't feel like migrants sacrificed to armok deserve any memorials.

The migrants sacrificed to Armok seem to have a different opinion on the matter.
You could just revert to 0.30.16; it's fairly stable and doesn't have ghosts.

Sever their heads and bury those and nothing else.  Soul put to rest, body left to rot/burn, problem solved.

So my crundles are staying intact unless they're newly spawned... until they are exposed to anything that isn't at room temperature.  This mostly seems to mean blood, specifically, their own.  Then they go poof very quickly.

Don't Sacrifice Migrants to Armok. Simple :)

The once dark-grey walls are now the dark brown of stained blood. At either side of the path leading to the great granite gates is covered with the corpses and skeletons of Goblin invaders.
Some are still fresh. One is still moving.
As you approach the gate a nervous guard looses a bolt in your direction. Silence... Slowly, gradually, the huge doors screech open. Inside there is a courtyard, the floor wet with blood. Welcome to the front-line. Welcome; to Cloisteredwood.

Maybe you could bury them in an obsidian farm, or at the base of a magma teleporter.  Put them to rest, then annihilate the memorials in the process of doing something useful.

Do ghosts still spawn if they die somewhere intransitable? The only ghost I've seen spawned at it's place of death. Maybe if you dump the still-living merchants into the magma sea the ghost wont spawn anywhere meaningful.

Not quite sure what you mean by intransitable, but given we have memorial slabs for the express purpose of honoring dead dwarves with no corpse, or whose corpse is inaccessible, I guess that yes, they can still spawn if they are unrecoverable or have no direct path to the fort.

My understanding of ghosts has been that they pop up if the body is just sitting around. If you give the migrants a firebath you shouldn't have to worry.

Also: I think if you place the slab for any ghosts that pop up they will be gone forever regardless of you removing the slab. I didn't keep track of the thread where a guy was testing that for very long though.

I guess that the criteria is that slabs stay assigned to a dead dwarf, regardless of it's built-unbuilt status?

This could be tested: dump the slab into the magma sea, or atom smash it, and see if the ghost comes back

Nope.
Even atomsmashing them will still cause a ghost to appear.

I would think that a massive sea of monuments to those sacrificed in his name would be a great way of honoring Armok...
