Engraving constructed walls.
« on: November 20, 2010, 07:47:45 pm »

I could not find if this had been posted before, so am working on the assumption that it hasn't.

At present, I find, constructed walls cannot be smoothed or engraved.

Would it be possible to have this changed? In game, this makes sense - there is no reason you would not be able to smooth a wall you had made.

I am aware that it might cause conflict with the classification of earth and constructions, so it is more than fine if you decide not to do it.

Welp, it has been discussed by Toady in the DF Talks podcasts, and and a few times in the suggestion forum.

Constructed Walls, if you want them to be smoothed, should be made from Blocks instead of raw rocks.

As for engraving, Toady isn't against it, however, he as of yet, haven't decided how they (the dorfs in game) can do so plausibly and there are some other misc. issues with engraving constructed walls that haven't been resolved.

But yea, welcome to the Forum.

How about encrusting engraved/smoothed walls with gems? Just adding a suggestion.

Yeah... this was probably suggested about five minutes after the version with the ability to construct walls came out. I estimate that since then is has been suggested roughly once a day. So... yeah, I would recommend doing a search next time before making a suggestion. Also, it's presently number 17 on the eternal suggestions list. http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/eternal_voting.php

However, keep in mind that the Eternal Voting Thread is out modded, and several of the top ten features are currently listed on the dev page.

But it still serves as a good place to see whats been suggested quite a bit.
