What about a game of Diplomacy?
« on: November 19, 2010, 03:31:29 pm »

Hi!

I was wondering if there were any Diplomacy players lurking around, and if you'd be interested in playing a game? Also, do you know any utility to easily edits the maps?

It is a board game set in WW1-era Europe, where 8 players are fighting for domination. The nice part is that luck play no roles at all, and strategy is quite limited: most of the game is spend doing diplomacy (hence the name) with other players, asking for help, signing treaties and backstabbing at just the right moment. They've got a nice description of the Gameplay here.

Well, a few of these games have already been run on Bay12, mainly on here.

Each time we've played Akroma has won however, so if she decides to join just remember that, she's very good strategywise, but is also incredibly manipulative. Exactly what you need in this game.

Wow, nice. Also, I'd suggest you go and look on that site too, their explanation are clearer than the wiki's.

So, gentlemen, sign-ups are now open to motivated players (this is a long game, so don't sign up if you're not sure of being able to play in the next month or so.).

Don't forget to choose one country among the 7 proposed. Also, for the game purpose, you're going to incarnate that country's head of state as of 1901. (Russia, Germany, Austria, Turkey, Italy, France, England). Roleplaying is cool (My experience is that writing a in-character text work way better than saying "Wanna team up against Turkey?")

In, dibs on germany
And amusingly enough, i was just thinking of hosting a game of this myself the other day.
EDIT: also web diplomacy seems quite cool and easy to use.
When do you think you would start the game?
