I got my first elven caravan EVER 10 minutes ago.I killed the merchant and let his girlfriend escape(with several broken bones,ears and teeths)in hope that she will spread word about gearedpuzzled.Will this(hopefully) result in war,or doesnt the game care

That alone won't bring war as far as I know, but here are some tips you can do to provoke them enough:

1. Cut all wood. Everything.
2. Continue your tradition of "slaughter-the-trader-and-let-his-girlfriend-run-to-tell-others", that will piss them off.

This will piss off the elves a bit, but you can piss them off even more if you first let them get to the depot, then attempt to trade them something wooden, sieze all of their goods, then finish off by killing all but one merchant as they futilely attempt to escape.

I'm not sure elves actually ever siege anymore.

I've stolen from them for decades, had goblins murder them, agreed to cap my treecutting then broke the limit several years in a row (in .12 when a bug made them actually send a liaison), killed the liaison, poured magma on them, etc. They just don't care anymore.

So no, I don't think they will be more pissed then usual. I think joining a trade caravan to a dwarf fortress is just an elaborate elven way of committing suicide, and they never expected to survive in the first place.

Edit your entity raws and give them a Diplomat (pretty much copy/paste the one from Dwarves, but set it to be appointed by DRUID instead of MONARCH), then generate a new world - now you'll actually get tree cutting quotas (once you have a Baron, anyways), and you can slaughter the diplomat to get them to attack you.
