No seeds available for this location :(
« on: November 19, 2010, 05:31:12 am »

I'm sick to death of this bug. I had carefully selected an embark in a serene swamp, with a little land on the side that had dolomite. It was a totally great embark, and after a year of developing it, the elves finally bring me three sun berries. So I expose a field to sunlight, and what happens?

No seeds available for this location.

I've got dozens of surface plant seeds. So I deconstruct the field and rebuild it. It mumbles some complaint about no mud at this location, but lets me build anyway. But still with the 'no seeds' BS.

FIX IT AWREADY!  >:(

I have this too, but I think it's a matter of biomes. You may have better luck if you place the field on actual grassland, however inconvenient that might be.

Do you have a bookkeeper? If set to maximum accuracy he'll be able to tell you where the seeds are, which would be useful for determining whether your seeds are caught in Hauling Hell or not.

I can't pretty well eliminate any worries of seeds in hauling: I had a field like this with a stockpile for seeds immediately to the side of it. Checking the bins with k there were a great deal of seeds in the stockpile.

I also ran into an issue where I cannot produce pig iron -_-
Plenty of everything I should need but it doesn't show up in the list and if I use the manager it gets canceled due to not having any "stone". Checking for anything marked dump or forbidden was the first thing I did, and very thoroughly.

There's some buggy crap at work here  ::)

If it's not in a soil layer, you'll need to enmuddy it.

I believe that surface plants require actual soil now, no muddy stone.

I recently (31.18) set up a surface plot in a rock layer, it required me to muddy it but was fine after that

Of course I muddied it.

I was a bit confused about how rain was leaving 1/7s on the area I muddied though. Thought only murky pools did that.

So I've got not stone but barren loam in this other biome I embarked on. Was full of pebbles and things that put holes in my farm plots so I muddied them. It refuses to grow anything despite being muddied and such but I've realized that I normally couldn't have even muddied it. I've turned off temperature thus allowing me to muddy tundra tiles -_-
How about you angle? What's the biome?

Shoku, I think that in tundras, glaciers and mountains you simply can't grow above-ground crops. I've embarked in them all multiple times on a lot of versions, but the game simply won't allow me to grow anything there. Your only hope in one of those is that there is another biome that does allow above-ground farming in your embark that you can build on.

All aboveground crops have [BIOME:NOT_FREEZING] and nothing can grow on mountains, oceans, and probably lakes.

Generally, just the standard. "Unable to grow on unmuddied underground tiles" Bug that has been going on for sometime now.

Is the non-mountain thing hard coded?  Maybe you could modify the tags for your plants; I think that should work without generating a new world...

Yeah, if I had temperature on to melt the snow seasonally I'd have realized that area wasn't suitable but I used dfweather to rain away the snow :/

Thanks, I just tried setting up a field within the swamp area, and it worked. That is to say, on my map I have a mountain biome which is providing all the creatures, and a swamp biome. The "No seeds available" message only appears in the area that is mountainous, but planting can take place just fine in the swamp.

One mountain biome and two swamp biomes, and I was trying to plant under the mountain biome; that worked ok for underground crops, but the surface crops refused to grow there. But building a farm plot under one of the swamp biomes worked, and all the seeds were available for planting there.
