If you hand me a coin, let me look at it, then bet me a hundred bucks at 1:32 odds that if I flip it five times it'll come up heads each time, and it does, I might say "Okay, cool, you beat the odds".  Chance of it being fishy is a very small nonzero, but chance of it happening naturally is 1/32, so, whatever.  Luck happens.

If some shady-looking bum comes up to me on the street and bets me a hundred bucks at 1:32 odds bucks that he can flip a coin five times and have it come up heads each time, without letting me see the coin, and it does, I'll probably say I'm being conned.  Chance of it happening naturally is still 1/32, but the odds of it being fishy are starting to approach 1.

So...Odds that any guy off the streets could be legitamitely charged as a rapist?  Well, hum, let's peg it at 1/1000.  Odds that someone wants to discredit him, get him out of the way, and chooses this as a method of pinning something on him?  Well...who knows?  I'm honestly not sure.  But I'd almost be willing to put it higher than 1/1000.  Not a LOT higher, but maybe a bit.

Your point is still "let's not charge people with crimes they're statistically unlikely to have done" which is frankly one of the worst ideas I've ever heard in my entire life.

You should get some kind of a medal for building strawmen. As I see it, most people don't think he did it because it looks like prosecution has a very flimsy case.

I honestly don't care whether or not he did it, and from what I've seen the entire case is a clusterfuck of allegation and yeah-no-yeah-no, I'm just saying that just because he's the founder of Wikileaks doesn't mean that he can't also be a rapist, or a serial killer, or a jaywalker, or one of another million different things. You can still do commendable things in your public life and be an absolute monster in your private life - the two aren't mutually exclusive.

And I'm saying that the low credibility of the charges has nothing to do with his work on wikileaks, nor did people claim that, so you're just setting up a strawman.

That was never my reasoning for him not getting charged. it was my reasoning for us not believing he's guilty.

Yeah.  Charge him.  But I hope the defense is allowed to bring the other stuff up--and that they're not dumb about it (IE no tinfoil hats).  And I specifically hope that they are doing some pretty good detective work.

Okay, so Dasleah would be fine with being charged with murder.

Strawmans, Strawmans everywhere....

What Armok and everyone else is saying is that it would be hell of a convenient coincidence, and what Dasleash is saying is that it doesn't mean he is innocent.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/worldnews/article-1307137/Supporters-dismissed-surprise%20sex-accusations-WikiLeaks-founder-Julian-Assange--women-involved-tell-different-story.html

Summary: Assange had consensually sex with both women. He's a douche (breaks condoms during sex, ignores them, etc.), but they didn't care too much at the time. One of them got angry when she realized he used her and moved on to a younger, prettier woman. She called the other woman and they both realized that he used them and that he's a douche. They went to the police station together to file the rape charges.

You know, the fact that it wasn't a political smear is somehow a lot scarier.  For different reasons though.
