Oh dear, not this retort again.. it's sort of annoying to see it so often in as many places as I have.
For the record, the argument that you haven't got the right/capacity to credibly judge the quality of something if you couldn't do it better is pretty flawed; being able to do something and judging someone's ability to do something are very different skills. Now, you *can* make the argument that being able to do something gives insights and understanding of the problems, pitfalls, and other sorts of things that make it complicated such that you have a better appreciation of how much (or little) needs to be overcome to get anywhere, but that *does not* mean that someone who doesn't know how to do something can't still manage to get enough relevant information together to form a credible opinion about how someone is handling something. For example, I'm not sure I could really do much better comics for 7 days a week for the better part of a year every year for as long as it's been going, but that doesn't mean I can't credibly say Garfield isn't a good comic.
As for DF, I think the pertinent facts are:
1. It's an *alpha*, not a finished product.
2. This will be fixed in the next version, coming out soon.
3. For a game that claims to be an alpha, it's incredibly playable and interesting; how many games are honestly more than tech demos in their alpha stage?
4. For that matter, how many games actually let you interact with them in their alpha stages?
5. There's a massive amount of stuff planned for it which, once it's all properly implemented, could potentially turn it into the Spore (or even greater) of roguelikes.
In light of those facts, I'm willing to stick with it even through the -3. Perhaps all Garry needs to do is stop playing Fortress mode.
