However: It seems that when embarked on an already populated site, ALL civs are hostile, except for the leaders and civilians, who are friendly.

that's where all the fun is, prepare for the journey and take control of these flimsy humans elves or other dwarves! yarg!!!!!!

Reinforcements?
For those times when you want to bring along an army! Simply download and run the exe. NOTE: Exe must be in DF file to work, and you may have to rename exe.

As it turns out, the pen was in fact a poor choice for melee combat in comparison to the sword.
So I just started playing this game and I accidentally nuked the moon.

I imagine that such is due to the limitations of your CPU and/or graphics card, and is not related to this utility.

Throw a couple thousand dollars into your machine, then try again. :D

I don't think a new computer is necessary... you probably just need to upgrade the CPU and graphics card. However, DF might have a limit on what it can load and run, no matter how good your computer is.

Really, I'd just suggest yoga and coming to terms with the finite nature of your existence. In Dwarf Fortress.

Embark sizes require differing sizes of RAM...
The upper RAM limit for a 32-bit system is somewhere around 3 or 4GB...

Embarking on a 16x16 map, will (in some cases) use more than 3 or 4GB of RAM. Unfortunately, this problem isn't solvable by buying more. DF is a 32-bit program and will always have a limited RAM capacity.

LOL and I have a sub 10 FPS existence on 4x4 embark sites....

I cannot fathom the pain at 16x16.

On a side note, I have added this tool to the list =)

Except that 32-bit applications, unless they have the /LARGEADDRESSAWARE flag, are limited to all of 2 GiB of RAM.  If it were using 3-4 as you suggest, nobody would be able to embark on it.

I just tested a 16x16 embark, and while I know it won't be the same for all cases (as you state), it only took 1.5 GB (decimal...  1522K) of my RAM.

EDIT: Of course, that's not to say it's playable in that state.  I tried to export an image of it, and the game crashed.
Maybe that's just an instability or bug of 31.19, but...

it kinda weird having 2 or more programs to run the same thing, but I can see that if someone just want Embark with out the hassle of other coding Dfusion has.
