Cheers. That was much easier to read.

Also, I agree. While the idea is nice, having another excuse for our dwarves to sit on their arses all month is not necessarily a good thing.

I agree with Urist. Steampunk is like Darth Vader winning Holland's Next Top Model. It would be awesome but not something I'd like in this game.
Unfortunately dying involves the amputation of the entire body from the dwarf.

Actually, TheyTarget's word choice brings up an interesting idea.  I agree that it is a terrible idea to allow dwarves to tie up other dwarves without player input, so why not reuse the military screen?  Set their band uniform and individual instruments (or the instruments of the band, and then they can play in an orchestra), set their schedule, etc.

I was also thinking that, but wasn't sure how it would fly.

If you're going to use the military screen, go all the way and allow military musicians. Right now, they'd give a morale bonus. Later on they'd be used to convey orders.

bingo!

+1 to the thread

I hope that we get restaurants, theaters/music halls, casinos (for lack of better word), and so on when economy kicks in. Also they should get a good enough thought that maybe their house doesn't suck so much, and so on. Also military dwarves who hear a band should get a happy thought, and maybe soldiers who die during music generate less bad thoughts (i.e. "His friend died in a heroic battle lately.")

If we're reusing the military screen, we might as well have a barracks-equivalent for the musicians. Not sure on what would be appropriate, furniture-wise, however.

That way, you don't have The Bells of Ringing, consisting entirely of dabbling Violin/Flute/Vuvuzela/Whatever players annoying everyone in the Dining room or whatever.

I'm curious what the barely conscious ai wrote about.
Well that went better than expected.  He went nuts and punched a rabbit to death, then the dogs and the whole dining hall ripped him to shreds.

Or you could make them auto play on all parties and give all attendance of the party a happy thought. This would make them usfull but would avoid adding a lot of extra interface or complex commants (and is thus easy for new players).

I would go with bed for the designation. It seems to be the standard. Then some form of container to hold the instruments, so coffer I guess would also work. Or we could add a whole other thing, but I have no clue what it would be or if it would even be worth it.

I think a bandstand would be a good idea. And the Dwarfs will either automatically hold concerts, or will do so when an option is ticked at the bandstand. And it would give a happy thought to anyone who heard it. Presumably Toady could use the same code for the workshop noise to calculate who can and cannot hear it.

HFS musicians. Maybe if you started getting close you could hear them?
