Bowyer made bow, not crossbow
« on: October 13, 2007, 12:00:00 pm »

My bow-making dwarf went into a fey mood and created a Willow Bow.  That's nice and all, but dwarves only use crossbows.

This wouldn't normally be too bad.  It isn't any more useless than that Tower-cap Idol my carpenter made, and at least now I can make masterpiece crossbows.  The problem, though, is that if I draft my legendary bowyer into the military he tries to use his bow as his weapon no matter what weapon I tell him to use, because obviously he won't put down an artifact.  He then starts endlessly walking around and around my weapon stockpile trying to pick up arrows that I scavenged from a goblin siege.  Even after I dismissed him from the military he kept trying to pick up arrows, and I only made him stop by putting all the goblin bows and arrows into weapon traps.

So there seem to be a couple of bugs here.  Fey mood Bowyers probably shouldn't be able to make bows, and the game doesn't know what to do with a dwarf trying to wield a weapon he isn't allowed to use.

I see one bug.  Him trying to use a weapon he cannot use.  I don't see why a dwarf gone fey with the drive of craftsmanship should not be able to make items that are quite unusual.

I heard of another player who ended up with a blowgun in similar circumstances.

I think the holding error is probably like Bug 157.  I let mood dwarves make items that aren't civ items so that there'd be a chance of non-dwarf artifact weapons, but of course they don't make armor that humans can wear so there's still some things left to be done there in one way or another.
