Finding Sites: Don't bother looking for Dwarf Fortresses right now, other than ones created by the player. They don't exist. I've wasted HOURS of time IRL looking for them.
Find any dark fortresses, at least?

Anything other than human sites does not exist. No dwarf fortresses, no forest retreats, no dark towers. That is not to say the sites do not exist. Rather, the population and buildings that bring the site to life do not exist. The game still acknowledges that the sites themselves exist (as empty patches of dirt) and you can still retire in them.

Which is why I spent some torturous days and nights in the mountains, in rain and snow, chasing markers on my compass, before I realized I was wasting time.

Another tip for survival is to not sleep from the travel menu. The last time I did I woke up to an ambush, except I was inside a murky pool. Not the kind with deep enough water to swim, but it's deep enough to trap you in there with no way out. I can't "T"ravel because of the enemies, but I can't fight them because they won't come down into the pool. I'm going to try waiting to see if the situation changes, but at this point it looks pretty bleak.

EDIT: I managed to get out! I suppose that the archer/commander got bored and left just after dawn.

Well, i have stated this in another post, but seems that nobody understand it or that nobody cares

I really hope that this get fixed but as it is now...  only with novice shield user, and not a single point of dodger/agility/anything (i thing that even without shield user) you just can get a lot of shields, then *r*emove all shields from backpacks, doing this makes the shields equipped in your hands, and a LOT of shields (between 7~xx depending the types of shields you have) raise your overall block of incoming hits far beyond 100%

Still, fire/frozen/drowning/sickness/rotting could kill you, but you could be totaly naked besides shields, and not having a single scratch

As far i know, genesis mod have slightly changed system maded by another guy in this forum that i dont recall his name right now, that have a lot of things to do in adv mode, like making tanned hides/weapons/shields(yay!)/armors(currently size buged by hardcoded mechanics or something)/arrows...  and many other things. Actually, i hope that the devs step aside in their quest to make something exactly like that, and just take that create system and simply correct the bugs

I once had and adventurer that has an armour of just lots and lots of reddragonscale/wyrm/hydra/dragonraptor shields maded by himself

yeah, i dont know, man.  As far as I can tell, Genesis is some crap slash-porn by pervs for pervs who want to go around lopping off elf-breasts.  I wish I could tell you that it is amazing that people who have never been exposed to violence are so sexually excited by it, but really its just sort of eye-rollingly wearying.  Dont feel bad though, its not just internet losers.  Bar chicks get hot and bothered any time a fight breaks out, too.  I blame humanity.

Anyway, I wouldnt expect any major patches to reballance shields to fix an exploit where you can wield multiple of them.  More likely, I would expect a patch to prevent you from wielding more than one thing in any given hand.  In the mean time, try not exploiting gaps in the code if you want a challenge.

Me, I dont want to have to level up by wrestling groundhogs so I just hack my stats if I'm not feeling like dying in a single session.  Which can be fun too, dont get me wrong.

The equipment thing is ancient, and I mean ancient. You're not telling anyone anything they don't already know. For an 8 year old game, it's probably safe to assume what you've noticed in a month of playing is probably known.

All the stuff Genesis does is planned by Toady. He's not going to use someone's mod to create content. He's going to do it himself.

Don't feel safe after you have broken both shoulders of your foes, they can still swing a bronze maul hard enough to kill you. Especially if you pass out after being scratched in the first finger, right hand. Or maybe it was the kick to the stomach earlier.

Anyway, my tip is: training wrestling by systematically breaking arms and legs of your enemies after making them pass out from choking is less fun.

It really seems like there's not as much of a penalty to attacking for stuff like broken limbs ect... as there should be. Like guys with a broken lower right arm can still swing a bronze maul. Again it reinforces the point that sever > breaking, and that blunt weapons are weak.

breaks = severs for skeletons, so blunt has an advantage there.  also with armor pen and knockback.  if you want to see something knocked into a wall and blown apart, blunt is the only choice.

i've also seen things drop what they were holding as a result of breaks, but its not 100%.

I just cut a night monster straight in half, so fuck blunt weapons as far as I'm concerned. Skull crushing is cool, but broken bones are...unimpressive :/

I'm actually quite nice IRL, but you people have to pay the price for that.

Now stop being distracted by the rudeness, quit your accusations of trollery, and start arguing like real men!

I will say this, if you use a blunt weapon and an edged weapon (a la dual wielding) you will become a deadly force as you slash limbs off and smash skulls in.

Plus warhammers can be thrown for some awesome hits.
