There goes my 100+ hours of DF saves.

I bet as soon as I download it for this computer and start a fort, it'll BSD.

It's known as the Oppai-Kaiju effect. The islands of Japan generate a sort anti-gravity field, which allows breasts to behave as if in microgravity. It's also what allows Godzilla and friends to become 50 stories tall, and lets ninjas run up the side of a skyscraper.

all in 1 world?

Spread out over world 2, 18, 21, and 22.

21 had the most progress.

If I may direct you here...

I'm going to be uploading all my saves to the Internet and/or using a jumpdrive.

At least I still have part of my region 21 save, it was for a DF succession game so I uploaded the first of spring 1052 to Fileplanet or somewhere like that.

Maybe I'll do a Let's Play of it since I know where the tin and bismuth are now.

A computer repair store might be able to retrieve your saves for a price.  (the one I work at is a small business one that will try to get data from an old drive when we replace it as part of the service.)

about 70% of the time, when a customer comes into the shop with a 'dead' drive the data is still there and accessible even if it is no longer bootable.  Without any special software or equipment needed.  Just another functional computer and an external HDD case.   If you can and have the know-how I'd save the drive and try to see if you can get data off of it when you get yer new one.

I don't exactly want to do that though, considering I actually would rather have a few hundered in my pocket rather than my DF saves on my computer. Also, they might, uh, find the, *ahem* porn.

It would be a Mac store, since my laptop is a Mac.

And the Mac store in question is in a mall. A real mall, not a strip mall.

Out of curiosity, how much does a Windows laptop that isn't colossally buggy cost?

Yea, it's not all that uncommon really.   Ive seen some stuff on computers that...probably should not be mentioned here... And we don't even look for it...

But it's understandable, just mentioning the options.

Eh, maybe I'll hold on to my HD for a few more years, that way I can always decide later.

And know about a computer store that isn't in a mall.

As for prices for a new laptop a quick glance shows about $500 for a system I would be comfortable with.   But I have never been good with estimates.  You could want better or worse.  And it partially depends on where you shop at any rate.

Eh, I'll just get a new HD. Maybe a new plastic border around the screen, about 1/4 of it's fallen off.

Just plug it in as a secondary drive. Not bootable doesn't mean your HDD is dead. Could be your OS got killed.

Now if the drive is making a grinding sound then its definitely hosed.

Not so much a grinding sound, more of a click every few seconds.
