Preventing soldier pregnancy
« on: November 16, 2010, 07:35:24 pm »

I'm tired of having to constantly make sure that I only have male soldiers just because of this whole thing about female soldiers carrying their babies into battle.  I already know how to prevent pregnancies overall by setting the child pop cap to zero.  However, what if all of my other children have grown up and I'm ready to grow the population again?  Is there a way to cage the female soldiers for say a week, change the settings to allow civilian married dwarven women to impregnate, then turn the setting back to zero, then let the soldiers back out?

TL:DR version.   How can I prevent pregnancy for certain specific dwarven women but not for others?

Amazon brigade.

Take your single females and put them all in a squad away from the others. Use burrows if you have to.

You could make sure none of your female soldiers are married.

With magma, if necessary.

What? But the women get an extra layer of armor! It's a bonus!

Danger rooms and armor every part of the dwarf's body but the abdomen. Repeat every six months.

Solved, Captain Falcon style.

Or switch them to missile and only deploy them from behind fortifications or across trenches.

Expose them to enough death so they are no longer phased by the death of their children.

Danger Room = Dwarven contraceptive.

Engraved on the monitor is an exceptionally designed image of FPS in Dwarf Fortress and it's multicore support by Toady. Toady is raising the multicore. The artwork relates to the masterful multicore support by Toady for the Dwarf Fortress in midwinter of 2010. Toady is surrounded by dwarves. The dwarves are rejoicing.

You could relieve them of duty for the two years their baby takes to grow.  Alternatively, you could change the grow time for a baby to 0 years, log in so they all turn into children, log out and change it back, and then go back in.

I agree though, I think women with babies should be put on break for 2 years automatically.
