Video cards aren't so important as far as I know.

Video card does matter with the OpenGL (SDL) DF.

Try and find out. Try both the SDL and Legacy versions.

I'd question how good your computer is if it has 8MB graphics...

That hasn't even been low-end for a fair few years.

Even my old Win98 machine had a 64MB video card. How old is your computer?

Unless you stuck that ancient vidcard in a modern machine just for the lulz, your computer is going to shrivel up and die before the massive RAM and CPU requirements of DF.

I've seen an old XP machine with a SiS integrated graphics chip that was at most 8MB. I gave it a pci graphics card (no agp slot, just solder marks).

Wouldn't have described the computer as good enough to run DF...

Huh, that's funny... I just built a quad-quad-opteron system for work that had a 16MB videocard...

Must be old and crappy, huh?

Old? Yes. Crappy? Yes.
The memory capacity of most modern video cards ranges from 128 MB to 4 GB.

Tarran has the "Tarran Bug", a bug which causes the affected character to repeatedly hit teammates while dual-wielding instead of whatever the hell he is shooting at.

spoilers: quad-quad-opteron actually refers to a AMD's line of modern server 'computer' :P

The most-recently released Opteron CPUs are the 8- and 12-core Socket G34 Opterons, code-named "Magny-Cours.".

In his case, he built a server system with two quadcores, so it's by no means old and weak, just no graphics capabilities like an actual server.

A 16-core system with a 16 meg card/onboard is a server setup, not likely to be anyone's desktop. Anyone asking the question "is an 8 mb vidcard enough to run DF" almost certainly doesn't have one of those.

Something like this I'd guess: http://www.tyan.com/product_SKU_spec.aspx?ProductType=MB&pid=638&SKU=600000075
Looks nice.

Still, I bet you haven't tried to run DF on it :P
