Alright, so here I am, playing my third fortress... 115 people, more than I've had before, pretty damn big army, lots of high-quality metalworkers... and then I decide to crack into another adamantine vein. I had already cracked into (what I thought was)the top level of one, knowing (thinking) that it wouldn't be dangerous, which was a gamble that I won, and for my efforts, I got enough adamantine to equip most of my army with at least one or two pieces of armor and most of the axe/sword/spearmen have adamantine weapons. Including this beauty:
However, that wasn't enough. I made what I like to call a Clown Death Chamber, which involved placing four iron doors with three upright spike traps each on them, each with masterwork silver/adamantine spikes and spears.
So I cracked it open.
They all died before making it through the last door.
No, I mean all of them. The unit list showed no more clowns. No new waves were spawning, and I was reasonably confident that they wouldn't start spawning again, because...
Not only did a whole season and a half pass, but we managed to (very, very slowly) build a staircase all the way down to the slade. Eventually, we found a few wandering demons down there; an interesting incident happened when three Wasp Demons finally figured out that there was a base nearby and went flying up the Adamantine Pipe. I hastily sent my army down to meet them, but then they disappeared... Only to re-appear again.
In the magma sea. They somehow pathed through semi-molten rock or something. But then, it got weirder. After about another season of me constantly monitoring them and them just floating daintily in the magma sea, they finally decided to start moving towards the one way into the magma sea from our base. I hastily patched it and sent a squad down, just in case...
they managed to path in anyway. Here's what the corridor looked like.
The red rectangles are directly vertical to each other, and the arrows are where the demons pathed.
However, my army got to them. Quite hilarious, really.
Anyway. I made it down to the Slade with minor incident, and I was intent on learning a thing or two about the stuff.
Yup, that's a farm plot and smoothed and engraved wall and floor. Of course, it wasn't without incident. As my military/civilians began exploring, a
few more demons were revealed to have stuck around to watch Hell while the rest attacked, kind of like an evil coast guard. My army handled most of them, although one of my poor dorfs fell into a glowing pit, and it turns out that those things actually have animations when people fall into them; first they become those little squares that trees become when you're staring at them from a level above, then they become a dot, then they vanish. Another was tossed into semi-molten rock so hard that he gibbed and fell into another pit, and one fell off of a cliff. And my poor hunter, Chen, actually tried
hunting one. My army made it down just in time to see his hunting dogs and war jaguar being slaughtered.
I gave him a suitable grave. (that's one of his war dogs)
But now, here I am, giant fortress with access to hell... and I'm not sure what to do now. That's where you come in!
I'm still somewhat of a newbie to this game, and have yet to do a megaproject. This fortress has access to massive amounts of gold... and now, insane amounts of adamantine. I was thinking "giant hell temple to Armok", but even that might not be awesome enough. What say you, fellow dorfs?
