So have you done it yet? You'll have done it by next Sunday, I assume, if you haven't, right?

Make love, not Waitcraft.
Actually, that sucked.

Just take the good advice people gave you.

Yep, i support the ACT NOW NOT LATER advice since i feel i blew the perfect chance this morning, it doesn't help one bit that that caused me to get drunk and go into a self loathing cycle where i hate everything my existance represents.

(also i know i will hate myself for writing this when i sober up but dammit i need to act)

Gah, now that I've finally some idea how to confess... I don't think I'll have any time because of school. Instant messaging is pretty much the only way we contact each other unless we meet up, and that's near impossible for me in the foreseeable future. Yet, I really don't think it's a good idea to tell her over the medium we use most..

Let me make this perfectly clear: IN. PERSON. Anything else is a bad idea, you are correct on not using IM.

Except for when it is impossible/extremely hard to set a date in person. As long as you don't go about confessing things on an instant messenging system.

See, you blew it. You had several perfect chances, and now they're gone. And if you wait more, you'll keep finding excuses to wait, and by the time you "have enough free time" to act, she'll have a boyfriend and you will be ruined. But all is not lost.

near impossible
That means possible. Plan something, make some time and do it. It's not gonna be optimal, its not gonna be perfect, and hell, there's a good chance it won't turn out the way you want it to.

But those are all excuses. Seriously, you're gonna say there's no way you can plan a Saturday evening together - say, next week? Really and truly?

Yeah, just to confirm, feel free to ask her on a date via IM and to make plans that way. No problem there. Don't be like "omfg i lurv you go out with me Saturday" and you don't need to call it a date but you can certainly invite her on it and be more open when you're actually in person.

Or you know, you can just burst into her home on a white horse and take her away like the shining knight you are :)

But more seriously if you can't arrange it then find out where she will be at a certain moment (say a bus stop or something) and show up with flowers or something, you know so it looks a bit more romantic and  a little less creepy/stalkerish X)

Try not to make it a buss stop though, please.
Rather something she TOLD you she does, like singing lessons or sports, and meet her after she's done there.

What, stalk her? I do know where she lives, I could probably camp for a while.

But seriously, I should probably set up an outing with her before her school starts. I only have two weekends left till then. She's not the social type, and wasn't very popular in her old school, but her new one is going to bring people with more similar personalities to her, so I really have to act fast.

School is fine, public transport is fine, any kind of event is fine (well, maybe not a funeral), phone/IM/mail/etc are not fine.

I'd have to contest public transport being fine. This is the sort of thing you talk about in at least semi-private conditions.

As long as nobody around you knows you, it's private.

So the golden rule is:
Discuss the 'feeling' stuff in person.
Do not wait for the perfect opportunity, create it.
Use phone, IM and mail only for arranging a 'meeting'.

Telling in in an area and situation where she is comfortable is what you're looking, but if thats what you're going for, MAKE IT HAPPEN.

You've been friends with her for long enough to have a good idea of where she would feel relaxed and in control.

It is currently the weekend.

Why aren't you doing it now? Just call her up, ask her if you can come over and hang or (or, I forget but you may have mentioned you can't visit her home?) at the very least ask her to come hang out with you, at a park or god anything really. Just do it man!
