The dwarven drinking song (Link) is in need of voices. We're looking for about 3 voices that sound like they could belong to a dwarf. no singing ability required, as it's supposed to sound as if it's sung drunk. There are lyrics and a tune in the other thread. It seems that Retro is willing to coordinate the singers if we can find them here first. So please, if you think you're up to the task (and have access to a decent microphone), post a voice sample.

His site says he does ideas and such for money. I wonder if we could buy the dwarven drinking song.

Maybe we could grab something decent from adventure mode as send him it?

It is a couple hundred bucks a piece for a song. If we want a paid song, make it the dwarven drinking song. We send him the tune, and we send him the lyrics, and we get an EPIC drinking song.

We already make donations to Toady, maybe we should set up a paypal account.

We could do it as a sort of "Happy late birthday, Toady!" gift.

So... How are we going to do this? My vote goes to having a Paypal account where we amass money, then contact Andrew about it. Any money left over after the purchase should go straight to Toady.

I think that would be the best way. I'd rather not be the one managing the account, though.

We should probably find out exactly how much Andrew would charge.

Well, the site says $50 to $200 per minute. That puts us at somewhere between $275 and $1100, depending on the "style, length, and in some cases, due date." I imagine it would set us back around $600. Reasonably hefty, but with the size of reasonable community here, and who it is for, it is well worth it, IMHO.

I could probably manage communications, since I have a fair amount of free time.

OK, I contacted him explaining the situation, giving the tune, lyrics, etc., and asked for an estimate of the price. I'll post his reply when I get it.

Why not find someone in the community to do the song for free and donate the money to Toady?

Oh, no need to be hasty with such developments Bonaparte, these things come one step at a time! We have music already, so we just need a singer, combining the two should prove easy!

I'm not trying to put a damper on things, but you're basically saying that the DF community should raise $500-$1000 to make a song, when other options exist, and the money would be, for the community, better spent on donating to Toady.
