Honestly, I can't say. I have a distinct memory of looking back at it and thinking that I didn't like the build of it, but for the life of me I can't remember why. For what it's worth, that was close to two years ago. In any case, I've long since bypassed it, so it's something of a moot point now.

I honestly felt the same way, I didn't like the T-34, and hated the T-34/85 so much I never got through it, ended up going the long way around as well. Unlocked the KV-13 before the t-50-2 switch, but never bought it due to getting my credits distracted in another direction.

By the numbers it should be fine, I actually like playing mediums and the M4 was one of my favorite tanks, but I just couldn't like the T-34 tanks.

As far as the Chinese tree goes, I'm stuck on the Chinese M5... I've bought it twice now, and sold it both times before getting to the next tier, it's just that tough of a grind with the realization that I'd have to do the T-34 again for the next tank, it's just keeping me away from the Chinese tanks. Maybe when/if the tree fills out a bit more and there's other paths to cut through the tree, but for now I'm happy enough with the other countries. Hopefully it ends up more like the Russians or Germans, with a dozen different possible paths, and not so much like the French tree which is just... 4 boring straight lines.

I actually enjoyed the M5A1 quite a bit, it gets a pretty good gun. But yes, the Type T-34 is like the T-34 except with a shit gun. It's decent if you get into a T5 game and terrible elsewhere. At least I'm only 1k exp away from never touching it again...

But yeah, the KV-13 is worth a go for sure. I didn't even do very well with it, but it's terribly fun to play. Functionally speaking, it's a T-43 with better armor, the KV line's autobounce front plate, a better radio, and better traverse speed for both hull and turret. Actually, one of the main reasons I got in trouble with it was because I played it more like a fast heavy, because there was so much that that superb glacis could bounce. Seriously, 120mm base armor, angling identical or near-identical to the rest of the KV line, and the acceleration to effectively fuck with peoples' aim by wiggling around while reloading? :3

The USSR mediums are somewhat wierdly structured. T-34 to T-43 they are poorly armored, nimble DPM monsters with decent penetration and accuracy, kind of like the Brit mediums of the same tiers, except with worse gun depression. T-44 loses some DPM (bringing it in line with most other mediums of the same tier) but gains very nice armour and mobility. T-54 gains even more armour, and the mobility is mostly the same while the guns are a nice upgrade (and one of the rare occasions you can pick between two viable options, depending on your playstyles). The T10's tho once again turn into mobile DPM monsters with poor gun depression and a very bouncy turret.

I can't wait for the 430, but the tanks comming before it make me apprehensive since rear turrets aren't exactly my favourite thing. (they honestly seem like a rehash of the second TD line, which I don't like that much)

So, I kinda ended up in an actual clan not to long ago and got to participate in my first clan wars ever, kinda interesting I won't lie, wasn't like tier 10 clan wars since its apparently limited to tier 6 at the moment but still pretty interesting. Actually having to rehearse the battle is something new to me.

Only problem with the clan is that they nag me to try and get through IS-8 faster but that's just not going to happen, I don't grind tanks. (Except for forcing my way to the Nashorn, but I mean I've waited ages for the Nashorn, getting it fast was a priority)

What clan? I don't see why they'd want to rush someone to a IS-7 of all tanks  :-\
I think it's more that it's his only T9 tank than anything else, as any T10 is better than none. Plus IS-7 pretty decent for certain tactics (breaktroughs and quick securing of areas, since it's the fastest T10 heavy that is actually pretty decently armoured (ignoring the gold ammo for a moment here, because that negates most armour on most tanks)) and my clan uses it quite a bit (that might be due to most

Yeah pretty much, The IS-8 is my only tier 9 atm and have no prospects of getting any to tier 9 anywhere else for a long time. Though the Pershing is finally fully fitted and on the path to a tier 9, but afaik the tier 10 Patton is even less common in clan wars isn't it?

It's not oftenly seen, but it does have its uses. Has the best viewrange which makes it ideal for long range spotting, while the gun has a nice RoF which enables it to dish out damage at a nice rate. It's usually skipped because other more specialised tanks fill all the roles it does better. If you want a scout, you usually take a BChat or a Leo1 because it's more mobile and much smaller, and with the binocs it sees just as good. If you want DPM you take a 62A/Obj.140 or 121.

But it's an awesomely fun tank to drive, the T9 one too, so if you ever get a few spare million credits I fully reccomend the Pattons. (be prepared for a bit of annoying grind since they aren't as good when they're stock)

Today I was reminded of why I love the S-51. I was targeting an IS-2, but a Hellcat drove into my shot. Hellcat popped instantly, obviously, and then the splash ammoracked the IS-2 and took him down to ~150 health from full, letting someone else polish him off a second later. This was after I somehow managed to nail a VK 30.02 driving at full-tilt. That 203mm hellgun is so fucking terrifying when it hits. XD

It always seems the case that the end of a grind for the next tank is right about the time I REALLY learn the current tank and start using it effectively and even enjoying it. Right now its the wolverine I'm working on and I'm less that 1k from the end and I finally am doing well and learning to enjoy it. For months its been that one tank that sits in my hangar and I've only reluctantly played it on bonus XP days and not even all of those. Today I really got into it and Ive been choosing to play it over other things. I was just going to get the hellcat and move on, but I might even grind up the Jackson now too.

Well i'm around 20k exp away from it and the standard gun annoys me.

Unless i hit someone with totally no armor (rare since the things i can aim at with that kind of fireing arc are usually camping TDs (heavy frontal armor) or slow heavy tanks (heavy everywhere armor).
This combined  with a rather flat trajectory (no top armor hits) usually nets around 250 damage for a direct hit.

S-51 used to be the embodiment of what people hated about arty. Practically guaranteed instakill (or extreme damage) to armour thinner than 80mm (bit more luck when hitting 80-110mm armour). Add to that good splash, high dmg even when not penning and armour that mercilessly absorbs shells (I mean seriously, tanked quite a few shells from tier 9-10 tanks, especially the E-75 and -100.)

Now though, it's sort of like playing Russian roulette with your enemy, and you're the gun. 1 in 6 chance to do what it once could. Still extremely powerful though, especially with 100% crew. No idea about the tier 8 SPG, but I know the Obj 212 is still a pretty good SPG. Much like the S-51 pre-patch. The biggest problem is the gun traverse.
Still, every arty feels like playing the lottery since patch, Obj 212 is the only one I enjoy. (Tried 261 on test server, that small shell travel arc is a very strange change)

Trust me though, all the grinding and suffering with the stock gun on these SPGs is compensated by those shots after which you get called a hacker or insulted heavily (take these as compliments, it means you're doing your job right). Just keep giving out "friendly" 203mm reminders to your enemy about the importance of covering sides and back from arty.

The Hummel is still pretty reliable, mostly because of its gun traverse. Usually 2-5 kill/game for me.

I'm on the verge of getting my first T6, but I'm torn on which one to take. I'm a German tanker and I grinded my way through a Panzer IV (T5 medium). My goal is to get to a Tiger 1 (T7 heavy), just because it's an iconic tank and I really wanna see how it has turned out in WoT. Now, there are two ways to get a Tiger. Either I go with VK 36.01 H, a Heavy one and the most direct way to get a Tiger. It would also allow me to get some experience in Germany heavies. The other option is go for the VK 30.01 P, then unlock the Tiger P and then get the Tiger. It would be slower, but the Tiger P also allows me to unlock the Ferdinand TD.

My question: what would be the best route? Just go for the Tiger 1 asap? Or take the detour using the Porsche tankline. And yes, I know that the Tiger II is superior to all the tanks mentioned above. :)

I'd say go for the H. It's an awesome tank, the P is at best decent. And while the Porsche Tiger is considered better than the Henschel one I think it's not exactly worth it, unless you want both of them, in which case going for the Porsche one first will unlock a number of useful things for the Henschel one. But the same could be said for doing stuff the other way around.

So go for whichever you think looks better.

Personally i'm going for both (altho the grind has grinded to a halt at tier 6... i have both tier 6 tanks maxed out but i just can't be arsed to play them.

From what i hear however the Tiger seems to be utter garbage.
Bad armor.
Slow.
Well you get it.

And the one and only saving grace of the tank is the top gun (every single one before it is trash at tier 7).

So yeah have fun.

But go through the H, certainly. And don't use the 8,8cm.
