Need some help with simple RAW modding.

After getting annoyed with every single one of my adventurers being created with extremely long hair (Seriously, it's no wonder that they die so easily when they trip over their own hair all the time!) I decided that I would try looking at the raw files for the first time ever. But... I have no idea what to do. I've never done anything with those files before. I assume that I'm supposed to change the numbers in [TISSUE_LAYER_APPEARANCE_MODIFIER:LENGTH:0:0:0:0:0:0:0], but I don't know what to change.
Any help with giving my hairy adventurers a much needed haircut would be appreciated :)

I suspect replacing all those 0s with 5000s might make them bald, but that's quite literally the extent of my knowledge.

In entity_default, you should find a number of "tissue stylings" after the dwarf (mountain) entry. Copying that after the human (plains) and elven (forest) entries should give your adventurer the same grooming as dwarves. You can tweak the maintain length tags to make sure the hair isn't too long.

Thank you for the tip. I tried doing this and genned a new world, but it probably needs tweaking as I've still not gotten any non-extremely-long-haired adventurers. I'll play around a bit with the length tag and see if I can figure it out.

Tried making three new adventurers with that, all got "extremely long" hair  :o Can it be something obvious that I might be missing, like not setting some option to allow custom raws? As I said, I've never done stuff with this, so that would very well be what's making it not work. Or perhaps I'm just cursed  :o

Are you sure you add it to an entity in entity_default.txt? Add it after "   [VARIABLE_POSITIONS:ALL] "

Also generate a new world for it to work.

Yes, I'm adding it to the entity_default. I had it added after [BANDITRY:10], so I tried putting it where you said, genned a new world... but it still doesn't work  :o Perhaps I should try downloading the whole game again, but I didn't install any mods, not even a tileset, and the only changes I did was some stuff in the init files (Activating Autosaving and Flow Amount and such). I dunno if it'll help, but I'll post the part of entity_default that deals with humans. Because either something's strange or I just turned imbecille and did something horribly wrong.

Does it have to be added someplace special? I tried just putting it between [VARIABLE_POSITIONS:ALL] and [TISSUE_STYLE:HAIR][...] But... yeah  :( I'll download DF again and try with a completely fresh game.

He means add that second block to the creature entry, not the entity.

Ah, okay. Should I add the stuff under [SELECT_CASTE:ALL] to the already existing one in the human entry, replace the stuff that's already under [SELECT_CASTE:ALL] with the new part, or add the whole thing so that the human entry has two sets of [SELECT_CASTE:ALL]?

You can just dump it at the end. Selecting all castes while they're already selected won't break anything.

The stuff from [SET_TL_GROUP:BY_CATEGORY:HEAD:HAIR] and down was already there. I also tried keeping the [SELECT_CASTE:ALL], and putting it at the very bottom of the Human entry (After stuff about eyes, I think it was), each time genning a new world. Still no luck :( I thought this was gonna be something simple, but clearly I just don't know enough to do it right.
