I... seem to have a problem or two and I'm seeking professional help for it. Have very few friends, but I'm slowly gaining a couple, very slowly. I also seem to have very few interests and don't know what to talk about with people. I pretty much just go to work and school and burn out. I seem to get taken advantage of by people and worn out.

I would like to make more friends, but am beginning to think people are frankly assholes. I'm a bit afraid of them.

What should I do?

Play more DF I think most people here can relate. O certainly do not have many friends either, just don't worry about it, get good marks, go to a good college, make a few good friends of the people you meet that genuinely interest you, don't try to make friends of people you don't actually like.

I think everyone has only a few friends. As opposed to acquitances with which you get along better or worse.

I've said this for a while, but recently I found out some greek dude (can't remember which. Could be Socrates or could be Colonel Papadopoulos, for all I know)

I still think B12 Mafia is the best place to learn, though.

If these people don't appeal to you socially, then don't become friends with them. Simple as that. You don't need to be afraid of having very few friends. The Naked Photo Test (a social experiment where a person is told that there hypothetically exists a photograph of them doing somthing naked that would socially destroy both them and their entire family forever, and is asked how many non-family members they would trust with possesing that photo) shows that in most developed countries the number of trusted social confidants is almost never more than three per person. In the United States, about thirty percent of people gave zero as an answer.

So you really don't need not worry all that much about it. Just be around people you like and shun those you don't.
