How is the sparring in .17?
« on: November 13, 2010, 01:01:02 pm »

After playing adventure mode almost non-stop since release, I've noticed how deadly everyone became with aimed attacks. When a well aimed opportunity punch to the head can break the skull and rip the brain apart, how is the sparring in fortress mode?

Sparring has been nerfed since ~.13 or something like that. They only "lightly tap" the target during sparring sessions.

I think that's been around since 31.01.

I haven't tested it thoroughly since I switched weapons as soon as I could, but with one elven adventurer I struggled to do serious damage with her wooden sword. Her skills and stats were amazing (demi-god), and she landed more then a few aimed and opportunity hits to the head but all were deflected by minimal armour. (darn hood getting in the way!) If that's anything to go by then I can't imagine there being any damage in sparring.

It seems strange that a highly skilled swordsman with a wooden weapon can't deliver the same amount of damage that an unarmed martial artist can. My High Master Kicker was positively brutal :D And was still lethal after loosing the functionality of both his hands.

But maybe I was just unlucky!
