Wrestling guide ?
« on: November 13, 2010, 12:03:38 pm »

Is there a wrestiling guide somewhere ? Something that explains everything you can do. I know I can strangle, gouge eyes, pinch, break limbs, or throw enemies. Are there any more ? What do I have to grab with what to do it ? What's effective and what isn't ?

You've got most of it down, the only thing missing is gouging eyes (Grab enemy's head with one of your empty hands, then choose gouge eyes).

Probably the most effective move is strangulation, since doing it once is generally guaranteed to knock an enemy out, which makes all aimed strikes simple and guaranteed to hit. A quick kill is usually a combination of strangle and some move directed at the head.

I do this strangle-finish him combo all the time. Though it worked for me only on goblins, humans and kobolds (elves too propably, but I haven't met any yet). For things like night creatures, trolls and so on it didn't work. I was propably too weak to do that.

My biggest question was actually: Can I do anything exept strangling and throwing while still holding my sword and a shield ?

You can lock->break limbs with your upper/lower arms.
It's good for crippling enemies and making weapons useless.

Someone has mentioned neck breaking and weapon bereaving some time ago, so is it just figurative speech? Also there's some bodyparts such as body  that give only one option after grabbing, which one is release. Is there any use of grabbing them? And what's diffrence between takedown and throwing foe?

Edit: You can also shake enemy around once you've bitten him.

I know you can grab enemies weapons and then try to disarm them. But I never heard about neck breaking, but it seems VERY usefull. How would one do that ?

Yeah, I tried that once after biting a nightcreature's head. When I shaked my head, I ripped the creatures head of. Guess my dwarf had some ultra strong neck :P

This post is quite old but i think this site should be linked to it:

seems like a pretty good tutorial on df's combat system

Kisat Dur has a few things out of date, I believe, but it overwhelmingly holds true. So if you can't get something to work, consider the age of the guide.

Break some limbs out there.
