Tunic

I'm actually not totally sure what the heck is going on with the Ziggurat past the Quarry, but this game got really weird really fast.  I probably should have expected that given the genre and the overly cute beginning to the game, but a little part of me wishes it had stayed with the cute fox-themed Zelda ripoff aesthetic.

And actually, to be fair, the freaky soul monster attacks you much later in the game, though you get to see them being stuffed in the batteries when you go to the Quarry.  At this point I think I'm at the end game and am preparing to fight the traitorous soul of a former hero.  I think.  The game requires you to fill in a lot of gaps yourself since most of the story and text in game is in a gibberish made up language.

This game is really hard too, but maybe that's because I've been playing with a keyboard.  I think every boss has killed me at least 10 times.

Me: so what you gave me another guy who can do engineering earlier I’ll just use him.

FTL: have an event that reduces your engines to one point of power, then. Oh and an enemy ship that has three layers of shields and three weapons.

Had big guns, and put the remainder of my upgrades into the engine, so had one layer of shields, which didn’t even matter since I was getting missiles shot up my bum which bypasses shields anyway. This game is very fickle sometimes. It’ll give you enemies that you can wipe the floor with immediately followed up by an enemy who wipes the floor with you, and the very occasional but oddly amusing enemy that can’t shoot through your shields but you can’t shoot through theirs either.

Murder by Numbers: I got incredibly stuck on a puzzle that seems to require wild jumps in logic.

There is a Sudoku-like grid, and the numbers around the sides tell you how many consecutive blocks are in that row/column. Sometimes, it will tell you something like 3 4, which means there is a section of 3 blocks followed by one of 4 (left to right or up to down), with at least 1 space between them (because otherwise it'd be a 7). I need to put a block every box that is supposed to have a block in it, and can optionally mark every box that *cannot* have one with an X (usually after a section that has one, or when a row/column is finished).

What I've done there is measure 8 blocks from each side, saw the overlap, and confirmed that no matter where I start, there *has to* be a block in the middle of the bottom row. That column ends in a 2, so we know there's a block on top of it, with a space above that. That space means we can't fit a 1, 1, and 4 to the left so the 4 has to be on the right side of the X. Measuring from the side and the X, we know where one more block goes. That column has a 2 and 1, but there is enough space for it to be the 2 with a 1 below it, or to be the 1 with a 2 somewhere above it. That's where I'm stuck, and it's enough small bits that I can't figure out any other even slightly useful information. This is supposed to be a nice, simple E-rank puzzle (from easy F to hard A, maybe S).

The red lines every 5 in the grid helps with measuring.

That column has a 2 and 1, but there is enough space for it to be the 2 with a 1 below it, or to be the 1 with a 2 somewhere above it.

Think about this a bit more. While both of these statements are true, there is something you have failed to conclude from these two statements that lets you take the next step.

For what it's worth, there's nonogram solvers online, and some of the basic maneuvers are on the wikipedia page.

Past a relatively simple point, those things give me a headache. I can do pretty intense sudoku but nonograms are just, like... no, no, I'm just going to not

 I see for the 2 1 thing you have going on your two possible configurations for your single dot is it's a two going up or a one. Either way the square right below it can't be black. This has an effect on the four  in the second to last row which gives you the eight in the last row and likely breaks the puzzle open from there.

I got especially beat after messing with sentinels. Retreated with my exosuit shield down and only one hit point left. Managed to lose the sentinel force, but didn't see the hazardous plant directly infront of me. Died to a frickin' venus flytrap.

No Man's Sky

Died many times to the final boss in Tunic.  I don't think I have the skill to beat it using a keyboard, so I resorted to cheesing the boss with the lure item, which took it from impossible to an outright joke.

Finished the game and I still love it and its concepts overall, but man are the boss fights just way too hard for no real reason.  The game has a "no fail" mode if you can't handle the combat, but I just wanted a more reasonable challenge...

Sometimes you just get a game where everything goes wrong.

In twenty years I passed a single law because of pure bad luck on the rolls, China beelined towards the techs needed to stall me, I was constantly warring, often with multiple wars at the same time because I was trying to keep my rivals in check, and my allies were repeatedly crushed by their enemies despite my help.

Russia's not having a good time, I'm gonna restart.

EDIT: New game, everything's gone a lot better.

I decided to fuck with Austria, because they're being dicks for no real reason. Should have been an easy win but the game had other ideas.

Every godddamn time I'd get somewhere with a front, all my guys would just... go home. Like they went "Right! Won a battle, job's a gun 'un" so unsurprisingly I couldn't actually make any gains since I'd have to send them all back to the front and by the time they were back there Austria had made up all their lost ground.

I plonked my head directly on top of my Go Plus+ while trying to fall back asleep, thus hitting the button and causing it to end my sleep session at 4:30 in the morning after only a few hours of sleep. This annoyed me enough that it took me over an hour to fall asleep again.

Aliens: Dark Descent

I think the game bugged out.  I just killed the queen and a bunch of face huggers by luring them back to a sentry gun and laying down suppressive fire and sprays of shotgun shells, and nobody was killed.  However, the game wouldn't let me interact with the cocoons in the hive because "You can't interact with story elements while enemies are nearby."  Aliens kept coming, and I must have killed a dozen more.  Then a "crusher" showed up and killed one of my marines, while the rest are now seriously injured and maximally stressed out.  I decided that I'd just make a run for the elevator and hope the area reset so I could interact with the cocoons correctly, but they didn't make it back to the elevator.

Reloaded and tried again.  This time when the queen died, the game correctly registered that, so after finishing up the handful of aliens left, it let me interact with the cocoons.

I normally play games like this on ironman mode, but I guess this one still has some issues so I don't even feel bad having to redo it and getting my marines back.

Otherwise I've found the game very fun and worth the price.  Arguably the best part is watching people's facial animations though.

Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. I think I'm way under-armored for silver-grade enemies. Been trying to find better armor gear, but since I can't check any guides while I'm at work(well, I can, but my phone is slow as hell and blocks most websites including Wikipedia for some reason), it's been hard.
